Hey guys.

Do any of y'all here own(ed)/played/etc. anything from steinberger.I know EVH used to use one and that seemed to sounds good :)
I'd also be interested in the Trans-Trem they hove in some of their stuff, EVH had one in one of their small bodied ones but the only ones that are on their site now are in one or two of their full size bodies but none in those cool little compact ones :smack:
The portability factor is also a big plus too

Cheers guys

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

Hi there
If u are interested in steinberger I suggest checking out LSR guitars they are built better and sound better . I can testify to that.
http://edroman.com/guitar/home_lsr.htm
By the way serail no#002 of LSR is the one which EVH played, yes it is an LSR and not Steinberger.

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

:laugh2: I used to have a cute little white one. :laugh2: I did really like the portability of it, like you mentioned; I never needed a case. I could never really get into playing it though. I ended up selling it in a yard sale.
:burnout:

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

I had a steinberger for years, and i don't buy they are not as good as the Roman copies. Plus you are not giving money to Ed Roman.

Mine was great, I highly recommend them.

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

I think Johnny Winter played a Steinberger. Leslie West played one. I haven't tried one but they look interesting, especially the trans-trem.

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

They've come back out with some of the nice higher end models again. I saw them in my new Musicians Friend catalog

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

There's not a lot of difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones, construction-wise, but the expensive ones have active EMGs. I think that's where the difference in tone lies, and the small body Steinbergers can really benefit from the use of active pups.

Is that really the only difference?
I was considering mabye if thats the diff to get a set of EMGs and a TransTrem but from their site the TransTrem is $700!!! so I wont be doing that , I think if I decide to get this gt-8 would do the trick for a fraction :laugh2:
The one with the Rolling Capo seems kinda clever but more of a gimmick (although a very versatile one of that)

Any idea where the lower models are made?
and has anyone ever seen a Steinberger Guitar(not bass) on ebay cos I sure haven't?

Cheers

It's not the only difference, but if you access the MusicYo site it gives the specs on the instruments. I haven't been able to see a lot of difference other than the EMGs.

The lower models seem to use an "R-Trem" and more expensive use an "S-Trem"
It doesnt explain the S-Trem on the site only the R but doesn't compare them or give and useful Information about the differences :smack:

Has anyone here played the cheap and more expensive ones?if so is there much Difference in Build Quality and feel?
And do you have to buy special double ball strings for them!?That wouldn't make me happy :smack:

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

Here's my travel guitar. It's a heavily modded MusicYo model.

Not only do you need special strings, you need even more special "calibrated" strings for the TransTrem--at least if you're going to take advantage of the transpose feature. There was an adaptor that lets you use single ball strings. I dunno if it's still available.

Re: Steinberger Guitars!?

Today its a thread about Steinbergers, who knows, tomorrow it might be a thread about those keyboards that are in the shape of a guitar. OMG, that means the mullett is making its way back around also. :eek2:

ARG!

I think i've seen a similar paintjob on a similar looking guitar before, But can't quiet place it :laugh2:
You do that yourself?Looks sweet!

It seems the S-Trem is basicaly the "TransTrem" without the "Trans"-position ability

And what model is that? Does it play good? Sound?

Cheers

Woo Hoo
Mullets!!!

I can't tell you too much about the finish or the model. I actually bought it used from a guy who had a pretty killer collection of 80's shredder guitars. He had the striping thing pretty well down as he'd done it a number of times. :) It's a H/S/H model with the middle pickup space filled. One of these days, I need to replace the switch since it's a Strat-style 5-way and I can't get both pickups together.

It plays just fine, definitely better than the Hohner 'Berger copy I had back in the 80's. As for the tone, I'm not a huge fan of EMGs, to be quite honest. I think that with the tiny body the tone is even more determined by the pickups than a regular guitar. I can see myself replacing the pups when I get around to replacing the switch.
