I need some help anchoring my strat tremolo. I Know it has something to do with adding more springs and setting it flush with the body, but besides that i do not know how. Where can i buy tremolo springs online!!??

Re: Step by step, How do i anchor my strat tremolo!!??

Make a block of wood about 1/2" thick (or whatever it needs to be to be tight) and just wedge it in between the back side of the trem block and the inside of the trem cavity so the trem won't move AND screw the six mounting screws on the face of the guitar( they attach the trem and bridge to the face of the guitar ) "in" until the bridge baseplate sits flat against the top of the guitar.

Don't over tighten them or else the baseplate will tilt. The beveled area directly under those six screws is beveled and if IT is pressed tight to the body it'll cause the back of the saddle to raise up and tilt. Don't over tighten those six screws.

That's about it. You don't need more springs, the block of wood will hold the trem tight enough if it's tight. Lew

Rockler's is a great place for to get wood for blocking. Also check out www.tailfeatherz.com. if your woodworking challenged. Ed's a great guy and it works as advertised.

so the block faces the springs or the back of the tremolo cavity?

sorry about that! i tried to draw it. But is it facing the rear of the cavity, or the springs?

Re: Step by step, How do i anchor my strat tremolo!!??

Block goes opposite the springs. But better yet, while you have the rear plastic cover off, simply operate the tremolo arm. You'll immediately understand how the tremolo works and eliminate any ambiguity. ;)

BTW - I happen to take the route of installing two extra springs, (for a total of five), and tightening down the claw, and bridge screws. It made a heck of a difference in the sound quality. So much so, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen, (heard), it myself.

i have an am se. strat so i can't use that tailfeather thing! DARN

Re: Step by step, How do i anchor my strat tremolo!!??

so the 5 springs route helps alot eh? Perhaps i will do that!

Re: Step by step, How do i anchor my strat tremolo!!??

Yeah, it worked for me. I went that route simply because I happen to be looking at the parts rack in my fav guitar store and saw the replacement pack of springs for about $3. So I grabbed 'em and put 'em on. Took literally about two minutes.

I would like to try the block method when I get the time, just to see what difference there is, if any.

Re: Step by step, How do i anchor my strat tremolo!!??

as a temporary fix, i drilled the 2 screws that hold the springs deeper into the body as to create more tension in the springs, thus anchoring the tremolo. Is this dangerous or harmful to the guitar, and is it as good as the 5 spring method?

Re: Step by step, How do i anchor my strat tremolo!!??

If by "drilled", you mean "screwed" maybe, maybe not. On mine, I screwed the claw all the way in as my first step, and didn't notice any real difference. Adding the two extra springs made the difference. But I gotta add this: at the same time, I switched over to Ernie Ball 10's from whatever came on the guitar originaly. So I'm not absolutely sure which change created the more significant improvement. But it was a noticable improvement.

I don´t mean to be rude, guys, but do we REALLY need to start / continue a new thread on this subject every second day? Just because the threads aren´t in the first half of the page doesn´t mean they´re gone  :D:D:D
