Stereo Chorus pedals running 2 amps?

Hi there
I am interested in getting a chorus pedal and, i see some chorus pedals i.e boss ch-1 super chorus and ce-3 chorus have two outputs for stereo mode. Does this mean i can run two amps at the same time to get a chorus effect?
Also can i run 2 amps at the same time if the effect is off? that would be really cool.

Thanks Dills

Re: Stereo Chorus pedals running 2 amps?

I did pretty much this exact thing for a while using a Danelectro Cool Cat into a Mesa DC-3 and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I had my OD and wah pedals going into the DC-3's input, and the Cool Cat was in the FX loop of the DC-3. I hooked the left output into the DC-3's FX return, and the right output into the HRD's FX return. This essentially turned the HRD into a power amp. I got MASSIVE tone through that rig with and without the chorus on. There is nothing quite like two different amps running side by side.

I recommend the same type of hook-up for your chorus pedal. I also recommend you try two different amps instead of two of the same - the tone is really spectacular that way. Just ask SRV ;)

btw. the Cool Cat is a highly underrated chorus.

Thanks thats really helpful, what if you run the pedal into the front of the amp instead of the fx loop?

I've done it, it works great. It's even better when the cabs are separated, you get a sweep of the chorus. I'm using an old Ibanez CS-9.

I'm currently having fun running a Boss CE-20 Chorus in stereo...One side goes into a Fender Pro Juinor and the other side runs into my 50 watt Marshall head and into a Vox 2x12 V30 cab....Yes you always get both amps working regardless of the chorus pedal being on or not...I'm just running my chorus right into the input of both amps and it sounds really nice! I'm experimenting with it,but I Like what I hear so far!

It will work. The reason I set mine up in the FX loop is because I wanted the Mesa's pre-amp and channel switching to drive both power amps. That way, when I switched to the drive channel on the Mesa, the Fender would grind up as well.

In the process, I learned that a Mesa pre-amp into a Fender power amp is a pretty nice-sounding amp! :)

If you don't have channel switching amps, or you don't care about the second amp being on one channel all the time, running the chorus into the input is fine.

I actually like using something like a chorus to split the signal, moreso than an AB box, which often introduces hum. Instead of switching between a clean and gain amp, set them both about the same, with a bit more gain on one amp.
It gives your rig a very touch sensitive feel. One amp is giving you some sustain, while the other amp is giving you bolder fundamental notes.

The Cool Cat is my favorite chorus for playing in stereo with two amps. It's a little noisy, but the overall tone is really inspiring and sounds huge! Playing through a pair of Fender Deluxes or Deluxe Reverbs spread aout two feet or more from each other using the Cool Cat to split the signal sounds enormous! Lew

Perluss Whun on the Coolcat.

I'm too lazy to run a chorus stereo.
