Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

Hi,
Many of you know my spine/back is ruined after 5 spinal and fusion surgeries. I saw a strap
called a Slip Stap Hip Shot that only goes around the waist.
Have any of you seen these or tried them?
It SEEMS like a good idea.
Please chime in, got another gig coming up and I get closer to quiting every time.
The last gig took me 3 weeks to recover.
Yes, I have explored every single avenue you can name.
Been fighting this since 2002, when it got REAL bad.
Thank you,
Steve B.

Is sitting not an option?

Not being a smart-ass,a friend of mine had major back issues & played (well) while sitting for a coupla months...

No advice here really, but I'm really sorry to read about your back. I've had a couple of spinal surgeries, myself. Back pain is horrendous. Good luck with everything!!

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

Yep......either sit or have the guitar supported separately.

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

Thanks guys,
But a frame would take the fun out of it, and a double strap doesn't change the weight on my spine.
I have been sitting every 15 minutes or so, but what I am talking about is a waist only band, like a wide hippie belt, where the Strat attaches on the right hip with the normal end pin, and the very short mini strap attaches to a new end pin you install in the lower horn.
It is called Sliper Straps "Hip Shot" sold on his site or at Reverb.con, a couple other places. You have to keep the guitar next to your body by holding it there with your right arm on the body. He says , "yeah, I know, gotta fix that" so I ordered one thinking that the end pin on the butt would hold most of the weight on my - waist 4 pounds maybe, and the rest with my normal strap keeping it from falling forward. If it works I'll tell him.

Steve - the bass player in my lead guitar gig sits all the way through shows because of chronic back pain. Is that an option for you?

I've never heard of it, is this what you are talking about?

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

treyhaislip -
Yes, exactly.
VinceT-
Actually, it would take the fun out of it for me. I don't play well live sitting down. But I have been sitting for one song every
ten minutes, or fifteen.
So if you look at that video, you can see if he lets go, the top will fall forward. I should get mine Thurs. or Frid. Like I said,
Use it as intended but also with a shoulder strap to keep it from tipping.
Any one know anyone using one? I found one good review, and one bad review from a guy who said he could not bend down with it on, to get at pedals, etc. Overwieght maybe? He didn't say.
Maybe use both parts of the waist belt and the shoulder strap for slipping.
Hard to say where it will fit on me.
Thanks,
Steve B.

Steve - understood, it's quite the adjustment to go from standing to sitting - if it keeps you playing for longer, it may be one worth making. Best of luck, man.

All the best w/ it,hope it works out for ya.

Looking forward to the review!

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

It's a very cool concept, definitely worth a shot! I do think it would be good to have a regular strap on as well to prevent it from tipping but looks like a very cool idea!

Please let us know how it works out for you–several guitar players complain about back problems and it would be great if there was a fix.

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

Robert Fripp has sat for every gig since 1969.

But there is an expensive option here. When it comes down to it, a chair is cheaper.

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

Thanks everyone,
Mincer, double strap, no matter how thick and soft, still ultimately hangs the weight on top of both shoulders, and the weight remains the same.
In Premier Guitar, the new Pedal issue, I just got today, has a review of the Slipper Hip Shot, and pretty much agreed with my fortune telling about it.
Again, I will try to get most of the weight on the butt pin and lower horn, and also try to keep it from flipping with a regular strap on the same butt pin and top horn.
Mincer - and all, I will be using a Bar Stool to rest my spine every 3 songs or so. My singer said I looked cooler sitting on my amp, plus the amp gives me a sonic ass massage also.
In the vid it does look low, but that part is adjustable. Review coming up by weekend.
Is it me, or do The Duncan Forums seem "nicer" lately?
Thank you guys,
Steve B.

Re: Steve B. Needs a bad back strap - Slip Strap hip strap??

Hey,
Just noticed on that vid that treyhaislip was nice enough to post, the guy did take his hands off a couple times,
And it did not flip over. We'll see how that works for a chambered Strat.
