Re: Steve Vai, Ibanez Jem Guitars...questions!

The routing for insame pull ups is UNDER the trem. This one is at the back of it, where there is nothing sticking.
Oh okay :D didnt know that.

I think its a thing from the first ones, where it had that different trem, that did have those little screws like a regular Floyd IIRC

Re: Steve Vai, Ibanez Jem Guitars...questions!

Yeah I think that's right. But why still do it on the newer ones? That's just weird, it's totally useless.

...and the Monkey Grip is completely necessary? It's just a unique guitar for a unique guitarist. I think if you're after a more 'standard' shredder from Ibby, the RG series offers a multitude of options.

The Lion's claw and the monkey grip are a couple of the Vaiisms that make the Jem the Jem. Strictly for looks. Always have been. Even with the Original Edge, the Claw is outside of the trem cavity.

Here's a shot of my jem clone, working out the pickup colors...the Dimarzio pink I ordered is horrendous, more like salmon, so my builder was working out a shade of pink paint for the pickup to match the body as close as possible. I can't wait for this thing to be finished!

I have a 555, and to me, it's a great guitar. The neck is really slim, the pup's are tight and agressive, you can get everything from jazz sounds(with the tone knob on 0) to metal, and i don't know if i'm lucky, but my bridge(LO PRO II) always stays in tune after i use the whammy bar. To me, it's a great guitar.
