Stiff pots

Re: Stiff pots

Spray some WD40 in a used bottle cap or something (spraying it directly on there will make a mess), then dip a toothpick in there, then put the 1 drop on the pot shaft and turn it back and forth so it get's in there where the shaft and the outer threaded part meet, it will work! (do the above with contact cleaner first to clean off any surface corrosion first, then the WD40).

......Man, that spins smooth! VEEERRRRRYYYYY NIIIIIICCCCEEEE!

Re: Stiff pots

WD-40 is an OK penetrant, but a lousy lubricant. It may work initially, but dry out faster than just about anything you can use.

Use some spray contact cleaner if you can. You can always use it later, and may prevent scratchy pots from appearing in your near future.

Re: Stiff pots

Guys- this must be stupidly really easy because I couldn't find much talk on =how= we get in there and clean the inside..

I've got some new garden variety CTS 500k Audios and they are stiff and slow. But do I pry open the whole backing? Or just spray stuff over the top where the shaft is and the stuff will seep into the pot??? I see you've partly answered (toothpick/contact cleaner). But you're doing that without opening the guitar and disassembling the pot yes?
??

THANKS !
