I use an C4 in my Explorer. I tried the Custom and just wasnt happy with it. Changed it to the C5 and was MUCH happier, but still found it to be alittle mushy in the lows with the Explorer. (LOVE The C5 in my Strat and RG570) So, I put an A4 magnet in it and it is absolutely perfect! With the A4, it retains the tone and eq curve of the C5 but it just trims alittle off of both edges. Like if you do this: C5= 12345678910 C4= 23456789
Highly recommended!

Hmm. This might be worth a try. There's still one problem: Where to get an A4?

Has anyone ever tried a live wire classic bridge? I'm still satisfied with the neck model, maybe a combo would be the solution.

id try that livewire classic in the bridge and see what ya think.
i think a pair of classics might work well for ya if you got the volumes balanced

Isn't the duncan distortion brighter and more modern sounding? I have a 70's superdistortion lying around actually, it's going into the bridge of my epiphone korina explorer once I finish refinishing it.

I only wonder if there are some big differences in sound between neck and bridge model. The neck measures around 10 khz and the bridge model around 7.5 khz. On the soundfiles the classic live wire has a great, clear clean-sound.

UPDATE!!
Now i got a live wire classic bridge which offers the clarity i looked for. I got it as a classic live wire set (now i have the neck model twice!) because it was a special offer (the same set which returned 4 years ago) and cheaper! than a sole live wire humbucker which had to be ordered. It has cost 99€!!! for the set, including pots, batterie clips, etc.!!!!
But, i'm still not satisfied. I like the thick, sweet, smooth tone of the live wire on the neck position, but i like the Jazz neck model so much more! A clean, sweeter, more defined tone, which was at the first try (last year) not that what i wanted, but which i had began to love! It hurts a bit, if i would use the live wire instead of the Jazz neck.
Now to the bridge position: It has a bit bite, is clear and brighter, but it doesn't have the tight lows which the '59 offers and which i like. I tried again the JB which has a bit more crunch, but the '59 is still fatter.
Again, i ended up that i like the '59 more than the other pickups i tried. But if i use it, I just would like to have the saem tone, just with more balls.
And that would be the Custom or the C-5, from it's description. When i try the CC with A-5, it sounds like a mushy '59, with the Ceramic mag, it has too much bass...
Maybe i should try a real Custom, i still think or hope there might be a slighty difference in tone between the 14.4.K and the 14.1k of the real Custom...

A scoop at 300hz eliminated the nasty mid overtones that dimarzios have.... Clips of the duncan distortion I've heard don't have the rounded off high end of my superdistortion, I like it...

I like the Sound of the Super Distortion in an Ibanez Guitar. It sounds like a vintage high-output pickup. Kinda "Distortion-PAF"

Well, the descpription of the Custom sounds like the right pickup, but i'm still not sure...
I always end up with the '59 and think somtimes "more balls"... :blackeye: :yell:

sounds like you want a passive pup, not an active one.

if you tried a cc with an alnico 5 and ceramic magnet then you tried a c5 and custom.

if you like the 59 that much but want just a little more, try a patb-3. listen to the clip and see what ya think.

What about a mid-bbost, as it is used for single-coils? I like the Jazz neck and the '59B, only sometimes i'd like to have more...

ahh but which one?
i tried the musictech one and didnt really like it at all. the torres kits arent boosters at all (no battery, no boost). i have the fender clapton one and i love it but i dont think they sell it any more by itself.
maybe the emg spc?

Just thought about a possibility to make the pickups fatter, when desired. I don't have any experience. Once i ordered an EMG electronic for active humbuckers to emulate
a single-coil tone. It was simply a cheap mini-switch with a cap, value 3 €, nothin more. And this was meant to cost 25€!
Maybe i should use another amp... Since it got broken and then repaired, it doesn't seem to be the same...
When i like a setup, then next day i don't like and have the impression "That's not what i heard yesterday"...
