Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

I'm begginning to suspect that its a faulty unit. Tryed it with my acoustic guitar today and theres the same low pitched humming noise coming from it.

My chain was this:
Acoustic - looper - keyboard amp

No noise at all when looper is taken out of chain

The unit works fine apart from this noise.

All cables used worked fine.

I tryed changing where the power adapter for this unit was plugged into. Plugged it into a point over the other side of the room, then tried it plugged into the same outlet as the keyboard amp......still exactly the same noise.

I then tried Batteries....same noise persisted

Even with nothing plugged into the input, and the output plugged into the amp, it STILL makes the same noise. (all knobs are turned to 0 BTW)
Read the warning sheet that came with it, and turned off my pc monitor, mobile phone, television, and moved it at least 2 metres away from anything electrical.....NOPE, didnt work

So i can definately conclude that theres something going wrong inside the unit.........right???

So now what to do??? I foolishly bought it over ebay because it was quite a bit cheaper than local stores.....and DONT ASK why i decided to give positive feedback already!!!!

Would it have a warranty? Had a look inside the box it came with and couldnt see anything resembling one.

My options as i see it:

a) ask the ebay seller to kindly send a replacement (doubt this would be likely as i've already posted nice feedback)

b) find someone who can fix this problem......also unlikely

c) deal with the hum (nuh uh.........i'd go crazy listening to it!!!:thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow

Help me out here fellas, gimme some ideas as to how i can get rid of this hum in one way or another!!!:crying: I love the damn pedal apart from this!

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

Check the input, output, fx send, and return to make sure their properly grounded.

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

which pedal is this? the boss looper? which model?

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

help pleeeeeaaase! throw me some ideas of what could be causing trouble:crying:

One more piece of information which is encouraging - I'm now using it with headphones plugged into the output socket (its night time here) AND:

* For some reason it only plays through the left side of the headphones

* Its hum free for a change!!! Sounds great.

So maybe its not the machines fault?!!.........i dunno, but surely you wizzes can figure it out!

Why is it noisy through an amplifier and not headphones???

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

my guess it is the output stage of the pedal- in any case, it shouldnt be happening. it is definately the pedal. buying on ebay isnt a problem, but was it new? if you bought it new from a store , contact them and get the warranty info (or see if they have a return policy). If you bought it used from a person, and they stated that it was in perfect condition, you might want to contact them (or ebay)..i think Roland's warranties are non-transferrable. in any case, it doesnt seem like that huge of a problem-You can contact Boss too, since they might be the only ones at this point with a wiring diagram.

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

Yes i bought it brand new BUT -
I have some bad news....read this on the auction page that i bought it from:

Do not open any packaging or use as it will be deemed to be acceptance of goods and will not be accepted for returns.

What do i do now?......

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

There should be a manufactures warranty covering defective merchandise, regardless of what the retailer claims in their marketing.

Contact the retailer first with a defective product claim and ask for a replacement. If that doesn't work, contact Boss and be persistant.

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

what if they shipped you the wrong thing, how are you supposed to know if you didnt open it? that policy is a little suspect- i would ask the retailer for an exchange, and if not, call boss. it is under warranty (this is what warranties are for), and let them know of their retailer's policy. most likely they will ship you a new one after getting the old one.

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

Alright i emailed the seller:

"Hello, my name is Martin Rotolo. I purchased the Loop Station pedal off you last month. I have only recently had enough free time to use the pedal, and have reason to believe that it is faulty. The issue i have with it is a low pitched hum coming which comes out of it at all times it is in use. As soon as the pedal is taken out of the signal chain the hum dissapears. I have tried it with various power adapters and with batteries, and nothing has stopped this hum. All my guitar cables are working fine, and there is no reason why the pedal shouldnt work fine.
I would like to get an exchange of this faulty product for a new one which will hopefully not have this low pitched hum. How would i go about doing this?"

Yours sincerely, Martin.

And this was his reply:

"Hi Martin, Have you talk with local store or other people that use the same pedal? I tried all the pedal before shipped it and all is work properly. Do you mean that the low pitched hum is like a noise? At this moment i dont have any stok for RC20xl. keep in touch. Erik"

Where to go from here?

I've been thinking, as its not a big problem and probably an easy fix, would i be better off going to a boss repairer locally and getting it fixed off my own money? Would it cost much?

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

contact the local roland rep. either ask the seller for the name and contact info, or ask a local store- explain the problems with the pedal (and one of their sellers), and i am sure they will help you.

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

He actually stated that he unpacks and demos all pedals before they ship? I doubt it. Go directly through Boss.

Re: Still have hum issues with my looper pedal.

Took the looper pedal to a repairer and it was my fault all along (insert head smacking smilie here)

Turns out i wasnt using a REGULATED power supply, and this was causing the noise. As for why it wasmaking noise with batteries? The guy said probably because they were too flat.

Anyways, problem solved and i'm (finally) ready to make some music with this thing (will post clips)
