Just played the Stilleto Ace. Its the modded Stilleto with more gain. The one I played was a green, closed back, 2/12 combo. I played it with a strat with a humbucker and rosewood neck. I didnt check out the cleans. I dont want this amp for cleans as I intend to use it soley for distortion and a/b box it to a clean amp.
-It has el34 tubes in this amp. It has wonderfull clip. You can make your clip subtle or realy pronounced. It has a tube or diod switch wich realy handles this well and gives the amp a wide range of tones to work from. It also has a spongy or bold setting wich again realy enhances the tone of the amp from softer distortion to more aggressive and pronounced. It also has a switch that has 3 settings crunch, regular, and fluid. This is more for the gain charictoristics of the amp. It has the usuall treb, high, low, presence, volumn, and master nobs and an solo volumn wich I thought was very cool. I found it very easy to dial in tons of tone from this amp. You can go from mild, softer distortion, vintage distortion, crunchy rythem, and nice gainy clip. It can also do the chugga chugga thing becouse it has plenty of compression. This model of Stilleto-the ace-also has plenty of gain. I dont like useing gain peddles infront of my amp so I like my amp to have all the gain I need. I like a nice fluid gainy clip. I got that easily out of this amp. It realy is my favorite Mesa Boogie amp as far as the distortion goes. It does the brown sound very well and the more aggresive compressed gainy clip tones but still retains clarity of the clip wich sounds wonderfull on this amp. The presence control realy shines on this amp. It realy helps shape the tone once you dial in wich mode of compression and distortion you want. Does this amp have as much gain as the Diezel Herbert?-no-. Is it 4 grand?-no-its 1700 for the combo and about 1600 for the head. Am I buying one-Hell Yes! I cant beat this thing for the money. Plenty of gain and clip and at reasonable prices! Its damn good for its price and will give most boutique amps a real run for the money. It will get just about any tone short of the real low, rectifyer buzzy tone, and it sounds great, at least the combo did anyway. Bang for the buck this thing is just about unbeatable at this price range.

I haven't heard the new ones yet
I am curious

Series One left some things to be desired
+1, Series one in my opinion was a let down. It lacked gain and seemed to lack aggressive attack.
