STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

I've narrowed it down to one of these two, to go with a pair of STK-S4's, in the neck/middle, in a standard Strat configuration.
I'm leaning towards the S6, but am curious if anyone has experience with both?

Thanks;
Artie

Re: STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

It's been a long time since I used the SSL-6, which the Custom Stack Plus is the noiseless version of, but I remember it having a frequency spike that I just didn't like. I don't know if the STK-S6 is that way or not. I do have the STK-S9b paired up with a couple of STK-S4's and I am very happy with the setup. It's hot, but it still works well with the lower output STK-S4's. It sure makes for a diverse Strat.

I wired mine with a 500K volume, 250K master tone and no-load blend where I can blend the neck pickup in no matter where the 5-way selector is so I can get neck+bridge. It works out really well. Can't remember if I used 250K or 500K for the blend pot. I want to say 250K as I have more of those laying around. The tone pot is also push/pull. I originally had a 'Lil Screamin' Demon in this guitar and had it wired to split and disengage the lower coil in the stacks but when I changed it out I just left the stacks set up that way and added the 9b to do the same. Quite honestly, I don't hear much of an audible difference between single-coil mode and noiseless mode.

Re: STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

i used the vintage hot stack + with a pair of classic stack + in the neck and middle and really like what i get out of it all around. i also have another guitar with the hot stack + in the bridge. the hot stack kicks the amp in the pants where the vintage hot stack sounds much more balanced. it isn't as bright or cutting as the classic stack + bridge pup which can be pretty sharp sounding. i like the vintage hot and hot a lot. if you want something that will push the amp harder for leads then look at the hot, if you want something more balanced with the rest of the set then the vintage stack is pretty sweet. i haven't tried the stk6 yet but i assume its similar to the ssl6 which is a good pup and sits somewhere between the vintage hot and hot

Re: STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

Thanks Erik and Jeremy. That's exactly the info I was looking for.

Erik: I think you've talked me into an S9. But I still have a little time to think about it.

Thanks.

Re: STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

Glad I could help. I went back and forth on this like you did and after reading other posts about the S9, I decided to take the leap and glad I did. I was jamming along to Badlands the other night with that Strat.

Re: STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

Apologies for the hijack but does anyone have good experiences with the STK-S6n in a basswood + Floyd Rose shred stick? I have a Charvel project underway.

Re: STK-S6 vs STK-S9b?

That's not a hijack at all. This thread is about everything and anything related to these "new-ish" stacks. I hope someone chimes in with an answer.
