Hello, so essentially I was wondering if anyone out there is currently using or has used a STK-S7 Plus in the bridge position of their Stratocaster along with a couple of true singles in the middle & neck?
Here's the thing, I originally had built a Stacked guard for my G&L Legacy with a S2 Hot Stack in the bridge, a Classic Stack neck in the middle & the S7 in the neck. Then I played the Legacy and remembered how FREAKING GOOD it sounds stock! Anyway, I tossed the guard into my beater Strat & it sounded alright but I really didn't care for the Hot Stack in the bridge. I spent a couple of days trying to decide whether I should exchange it for a STK-S2 neck, which I did today. I've already got one in my Koa Strat and I absolutely love it!
When the S7 was up in the neck all I could think about was how it would make a much better bridge pickup than a neck pup so now I'm kinda thinking about scrapping the "Stacked Strat" idea & just using the S7 in the bridge with the stock single coils? If anyone has any input on this particular setup or something like it please leave your impressions...
Oh, its probably also worth mentioning for those of you who don't already know that the Legacy's harness is not like a Fender harness. They have a P.T.B. or "Passive Treble Bass" system in them that allows you to roll off the treble & the bass of the guitars signal, like a mini E.Q.? That's really not why I'm mentioning it though, it's the fact that the current harness is made up of 1 Meg pots, not 250K's. I would imagine when the guys @ Duncan designed the S7 they had 250k pots in mind because that's what's inside of most Stratocasters? This is also the reason I built a entire new guard instead of just tossing in the puppies, well that & I thought it would be nice if I could switch it back to it's stock form @ a later date if needed? Does anyone have any idea how this pickup might sound in the bridge of a tight grained Ash body & running of a bunch of 1 Meg pots???
