STK-S9 Hot Stack Plus pickup height assistance.

Hello.

I just got this pickup and I have it set fairly low at the moment.

I would like to know if these stacks are meant to be set low or do they go higher up like how a humbucker would?

If anyone could give me a good starting point please and then I can adjust from there.

Thanks!

Usually I test several different heights, and it is different for every guitar. Being that the magnet can 'catch' and dampen the vibration of the string, I set it low enough so that doesn't happen, and no lower (unless there is a balance problem with the other pickups).

Thanks.

A rough idea on a good measurement as a starting point so I know if im on the right track? Thanks.

Start turning the screws and see what sounds good to you.

That's just it...there is no 'number'..it depends on guitar and playing style. I can refer you to this, and this.

I can't believe you're asking this question before you've even tried adjusting the heights 'til you find what sounds best to YOU.

There is no definitive answer to your question. Only trial and error will answer it.

Actually I have adjusted as you can see by my original post which im sure you read that I had it very low at the time of my post.

I was just hoping someone here could be helpful and give me some more info to see if I am on the right track as a first time owner of a stack type pickup.

I don't think the stack design makes adjusting the pickup a different process, however. The poles are still the magnets, and you can still get the magnets pulling on the strings if it is too close. I find the location whenre this starts happening (usually above the 12th fret), then pull it back a little until it goes away. That usually is the best spot.

Well, actually, there is nothing in your original post that says you tried adjusting it:

You say you just got it.
You say it IS set low (not you have tried adjusting the height).
You're asking if going higher will help (indicating that you haven't tried it higher).
You are asking for a "starting point".
Then you say you will adjust from there.

I don't mind being called-on-the-wall for misunderstanding a post or giving wrong info in response, but please point it out to me where I didn't "see by (your) original post" that you had already tried adjusting it.

And then, pure logic would dictate that if you HAD, you wouldn't be asking this question.

Sorry for being harsh, but you are not the first.
