Stock Custom P90 in Dog Ear form for Les Paul Jr.?

As I've been having trouble receiving a response back from SD's customer service (as I'm sure they're swamped) I felt the next best option was to resort to the forums...

I'm currently in the process of ordering a double-cut Les Paul Jr. in TV Yellow (Johnny Thunders' model) Chibson (yeah I know... sue me) but want to throw in a Custom P90 to follow Brian Baker's from Bad Religion/Dag Nasty lead. My question is... Do I need to order a Custom P90 in Dog Ear form from the Custom Shop, or can I just drop in the stock Custom P90 soapbar (https://www.seymourduncan.com/picku...id_ref=5db1d1c7ca33b?__uuid_ref=5db1d1c7ca3a7) into the already existing Dog Ear slot on the guitar or, just get a Dog Ear pickup ring and have a makeshift Dog Ear Custom P90 combining two pieces without having a custom job from the Custom Shop? I've linked some pics of the guitar I'm ordering below to show what I'm gonna be working with. It's hard to see what's possible through these pics and should probably wait to decide when I actually receive the guitar, but wanted to get an early jump on this.

Welcome to the forum.

You'll want a dog ear. The base plate is different between a dog ear and a soap bar. The only options you have with SD are the Antiquity line or Custom Shop for dog ears. Trust me, I've asked. ;)

Damn, I was afraid of that. Well, I appreciate the help and getting this answered early on before the guitar shows up! Hopefully now I just get a response back from SD on how I can order one from the Custom Shop...

Yup, I wanted a Vintage P90 from the standard lineup but in dog ear format and was referred to the Custom Shop as well from customer service. Disappointing. I'll be going another route for a dog ear.

That Antiquity comes with two A2 magnets. If you just want it to be a bit hotter you could replace the magnets with two A5s or even two A8s or a combination of A5/A8. You could even use ceramic mags to get a bit more punch to the tone.

When I really want to beef up my P-90s I just put in two A8s and blam!

After my disappointment with Phat Cats, I'd never put A2's in a P-90. Any alnico would be a better choice.

^ I agree. It's very rare that I would use even one A2 in a P-90...you lose the basic character...the primary reason for even using a P-90 in the first place.

For me, it's got to have more bite than a humbucker and more power than a Single coil. After all, isn't that what a P-90 is all about?! That's why I love either A5/A8 or A8/A8 in the bridge P-90 and usually A5/A5 in the neck.
