Stoner Rock Josh Homme tone

Re: Stoner Rock Josh Homme tone

No no, I meant it as a big complement. Its raw and gritty and ugly in an awesome way. In Homme fashion. I like it a lot.

(Thats why I said "delightfully")

Ahh I just figured you were not a Homme fan at all or stoner rock fan !!

It is quite hideous I will agree but somehow in a band setting it just beefs everything up! Funny how in a year I went from loving John Mayer to all out sludgey music like Kylesa and stoner rock like QOTSA. If I showed my clean spanky strat wielding self from a year ago this video the old me would have puked! now i'm getting into metal .. its a slippery slope getting into the heavies but man does it feel good lol

thanks!

Far from it; my main focus is in the stoner/doom/sludge territory and I have heaps of respect for Homme. "Ugly" tones are my favorite, I just don't use such adjectives in a negative sense. Least of which is bass tones- the uglier the better as far as I'm concerned. And yes, particularly with bass tones the real ugliness always sits awesomely in the mix. I suppose most people just don't think of words like "ugly" or "hideous" as positive, hence the confusion.

I'd be more than happy to recommend some bands if you're just getting into the sludginess, shoot me a PM if you like.

That was delightfully hideous.

No useful addition to the thread from me as I'm not really a scholar of stoner sounds but I got the meaning of the sentence well. Some of the best guitar sounds belong to that wonderfully dirty and hideous, delightful and glorious category.

I know I'm about a week late here but I really wanted to hear this. YouTube says it's removed. Josh has one of the hardest sounds to try to copy. He's pretty secretive about it too.

You're obviously into QOTSA, have you listened to any Kyuss? Your band reminds me of them. Kyuss was probably one of the most underrated bands in music history IMHO. Your band sounds awesome BTW!

Thanks so much again man! Yeah I have listened to Kyuss a bit but I could never get into the vocals but everything else is my taste.. I joined the band i'm in now when it was a hard rock/post rock band and kinda slipped in my Stoner rock preferences and our songs are getting more and more stoner rock style which I really like. Again thanks for the compliment I really appreciate that, all I got on the les paul forums is insults :/

BTW... I deleted a few youtube videos and accidentally removed it sorry about that
