Stoopid clipping diode questions

I'm working on "modding a mod" - expanding slightly on a commercial mod that's already in place. The original mod replaced a 1N4148 with a 1N4002, so presumably, there's some tonal benefit to that swap. Now I need to substitute for another diode, and figured I'd follow the original mod's example and use a 1N4002. But my local "little electronic parts" emporium is out of 1N4002's. I do, however, have a big pile (relatively speaking) of 1N4007 lying around from my amp-building projects.

Is there an audible difference between a 1N4002 and a 1N4007?

What about the 1N4002 and the ubiquitous 1N4148/1N914/1S2473? I have several of those pulled from recent pedal mods.

Which is going to get me closer to the 1N4002?

Re: Stoopid clipping diode questions

Hehe it is the same...just for different voltages...I often use the 4007 for some stuff....as we use them in other applications...4148 we use in the HDBs.....but they require a different filtering to sound good to me....

Re: Stoopid clipping diode questions

OK. I won't hold out until I can get ahold of a real 4001 or 4002. I'm just going to compare the 4148 and the 4007 that I already have, pick the one I like better, and declare this pedal finished. I'm tired of foolin' with it.
