Storing pickups

If I'm keeping pickups that I'm not using at the moment, is there any advice I should follow regarding storing them? For example, if I keep them all stacked close together, will the magnets interfere with each other and cause them to be degaussed? I guess I should also avoid keeping them near any other strong magnets (eg speakers.)

Anything else?

Re: Storing pickups

Humbuckers are pretty stable but singles if you let them stick to each other at the rod magnets they might have problems. Just keep some space between them and your Ok.

The repair guy I go to -- Fred at the Repair Zone -- said Seymour visited his shop one time, and suggested he store his pickups side-by-side, not stacked.

Re: Storing pickups

Do you have an open back amp. That big magnet on the speaker. Just stick your pickups on there.

Alright, not really.

Re: Storing pickups

As a general rule, magnets of any type, not just pickup magnets, are best stored stuck together (i.e. attracting). I usually store my Fender-style pickups stuck together, and my Gibson-style pickups side by side. However, the magnets in pickups aren't really strong enough to screw with other pickup magnets, so I wouldn't obsess over it one way or the other. Do be careful to keep them away from very strong magnets, however.

Magnets only degauss if you force like poles together. Pickup boxes keep the pickups further apart than when they are installed in guitars, so shouldn't be a problem.
