Stormy Monday ?

Hi everyone!
For some time I have spent too much effort doing everyone else's album but mine so I am going to try to do a blues CD for myself. I am not really that good but I don't particularly suck either the album is basically for my own enjoyment
In any case I want to next try to attempt "Stormy Monday" (Allman Bro.'s Filmore East version) with gracious liberties taken as always I guess my question for the forum is this
STRAT OR LES PAUL ? I personally am hearing strat all the way switching between the neck and middle pups
Now, I know Duane played an SG on this but I really think the Lester would be too meaty (of course ****ey is using the Lester for the rhythms) I also have a Tele with 59's in both spots but I think the fact that it was live all my newer gear is going to sound to meaty for a blues song
I already did a version of “Still Loving You” with the strat and it came out pretty good so I am just feeling the strat is so much bluesier (at least I feel it makes me play more bluesy anyway).
OK open for opinions………

Those interested can listen online
Both these songs were done with the Strat > Tube Screamer with the elusive chip (no distortion just used for some extra tube cooking >Marshall JCM 2000 60 watt combo> clean channel (with the Jeff Seal JCM800 mod this guy rocks btw). There is a slight dist part on “SLY” that was done with the Les Paul>Tube Screamer> Real Tube… but I am going to try to keep this clean for the most part I have been hiding behind distortion for way to long….. Its Time to get out of the closet…. Lol

Re: Stormy Monday ?

You have performed a fantastic version of "Since I've been loving you"

5 stars

Stratman says so, there4 it is!

Re: Stormy Monday ?

i like the idea od a strat rhythm, if for no othere reason than it will be a little different from the ABB version ... i am sure that no matter which axe you play, it'll sound great

cheers

Re: Stormy Monday ?

Wow thanks Stratman ! that means a lot from fellow gtr slingers...
I am definatley going to use the Strat because like SLY its my interpertation of a song that come to think of it T bone Walker wrote not teh ABB I was listening to the muddy waters version again today and I think an organ solo has definatley gotta be in my version
ok one allman solo at a time
maybe two months

Re: Stormy Monday ?

Sounds good :)

BTW...Duane played Stormy Monday on a cherryburst LP, not an SG. His leads on that song were played fingerstyle. One of the best examples of DA's tone to be found.
