I purchased this pickup way back in 1987, changing it on my Telecaster. Now I wanted to install it on another Telecaster but I had a slight doubt about the originality of the pickup because it lacks the typical metal cover. my question is: did they also build this STR-2 model without it? I also have its original box. Thanks for any response.

Welcome to the forum!

The easiest way to tell is post some clear pics to our dedicated thread Is this a Real Seymour Duncan? We have really wonderful experts here who know what many different models of pickups should look like.

Thank you so much for your welcome to this wonderful page, I will immediately add the photo of this pickup with its original box.

Do you have a pic of the bottom of the pickup? Usually this is sold with a cover, and wax potted, so if the cover was taken off, there would be evidence of wax all over the coil.
If there isn't wax there, it isn't out of the question that it could have been ordered without a cover.

I already had it installed by the luthier, however I remember well that there was no trace of wax, are you saying that it could have also been built without the cover?

Yes, it would have been something special (we call them 'Shop Floor Customs' now), but it is possible.
