Strange behavior of Tone control since de-mud mod

Hello @ all,
im new here : popworm:
read a lot of threads, done some mods, very nice forum!
Have a question concerning the de-mud mod.

I installed the extremely usefull coil-swap mod in a jazz neck / jb bridge equipped guitar.
Very happy with the resulting neck tone, but the bridge tone in coil-swap mode had to much low end compared to the neck to be usefull.

so my keen invention :oh: was putting a de-mud mod in by
(i used a 510k metal film resistor and a wima FKP2 0,01 cap) bridging the relating pins of the push/pull sw. works.

BUT
since that the normal tone contral acts more like a bass+high cut, bummer.

So why is that so?
maybe it has got something to do with the position in the circuit, in between the coils...?
Or the wiring of the normal tone pot in combination with that?
The cap is going from the left lug of the volume pot to the middle of the tone pot.
I think this is some kind of alternative wiring close to 50´s style...

Any ideas?

yes
took a while to realize, but it does.

it´s like in the first 1/3 it cuts the lower hights more... at "0" youre
left with mids only.

Weird. haha. Personally I think thats pretty kool. But ya know, thats just me. I have no suggestions to fix it, other than removing the "de-mudd" mod stuff. But that sorta brings back the problem ya had before. So I dunno.

Re: Strange behavior of Tone control since de-mud mod

well yes i also thought it can be useful but cant say if it will work for me
because its only 24h in there yet...
the only real complaint is that the signal is (of course) a little weak
when on "0". So nothing sort of a feeling you would have with a mid-boost
going on here.

basically i asked because i´d like to get rid of unexpected behavior of the
meant-to-be-a higcut pot.
although i would trade in the unwanted mid-pass for a mid-cut. :)

hey - maybe the coils inductances play a rolle here somehow...
do you know the torres kit? there´s something going on with an inductor, but
in this case taking the mid frequencies to ground. so maybe i soldered together something similar that is just leaving the mids...

whatever...
i dont know anything precise about this actually

my english is a little rusty these days so forgive me if i write odd sentences...

i'd say remove the mod, and try a magnet swap for the jb, possibly to a2:fing2:

Re: Strange behavior of Tone control since de-mud mod

well,
very happy with what i did. the coil-swap mod gives
*+++*excellent*+++* sounds.
i´m playing a musical show for money reasons, lots and lots of guitar work
with different sounds. so - whenever i need a more tele-like highend the
coil-swap delivers.
the de-mud makes it even more versatile because the bridge setting now
actually adds a very balanced match to the neck coil-cut tone.
before it was just "unexpected behavior" to have the same amount of bass (coming from the screw coil of the neck) on bridge.

i highly recommend the coil-swap!
in my setup it works better than any split or parallel or whatever.
a pity that strange tone control anyway...

and yes, you´re **** right, in the end it is just about playing!
equipment doesn´t matter at all!

so.... what was that magnet thing all about?? :lmao:

Just yankin' your leg, as I mod more than I play! ( I Need to PLAY more!!)
