strange buzz with my sd sh-11 ?

i have a washburn x-50 with the CC in the bridge.

i used to think the background hum came from my rig which isn't ideal, but today i tried my older guitar to compare.

i have a boss mt-2 metal zone pedal and a vantage 30 watt amp. not the best there is, but it manages.

so i tried my old samick guitar (which is fairly similar to that one http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2221475)
and turned the distortion on without touching any of the EQ or gain. the sound was almost absolutely buzz-free.

i plugged back my washburn and played a bit. the tone's much better, naturally, and there's a bit more output, but it gets fuzzy and when i play chords in distortion, the notes don't exactly come out, they just drown under the fuzz.

i don't know that much about pickups just yet, but i still feel there's something wrong with the fact that an old rusty stock pickup sounds less fuzzy than a brand-new brand name pickup.

my friend told me that could be due to the picjups' gain and/or harmonics, but i don't know much about those. i was hoping somebody could give me some ideas or advice about all this. thank you very much (:

I'm not there to see it, so I don't know exactly what kinda "fuzz" you're talking about, but if it's what I think it is, you've got either a bad wire in the guitar somewhere or maybe a bad switch. Either way it sounds like something's losing contact if the sound degenerates into a farting fuzziness.

I have a CC in an ESP Horizon neck-thru from 1988. Plugged into my DSL100, it perfectly nails classic Judas Priest.

I wouldn't call that fuzzy.

Sounds like the CC just doesn't work with your rig. Try a different rig or get a different pickup. Does your friend have a rig different from yours? Try his to see if it sounds better.
