Strange Pearly Gates

Please look at the 2nd pic in the listing. Ever see a Pearly Gates with a back like this? You can clearly see the PGBG tag on the bottom pickup, but I've never seen one with a black back. Yes, SD did make some Ed Roman "blackbacks", but this is not one of them. Every one I've seen has a small SD logo on the front and no stickers or markings on the back.

Sorry for the link. I don't know how to copy eBay pictures.

Re: Strange Pearly Gates

Yeah, usually I think those were made for another company as original equipment in a particular model. I don't know which production guitars used a PG or a Sentient/Pegasus set, though.

Re: Strange Pearly Gates

Ok, cool. I had just never seen a SD pickup with a black baseplate in all my years, except for the Ed Roman pickups. I've bought 5 guitars that came with SD pickups stock and none were black. It just must be a more recent thing, or something. I was just wondering is all. Thanks guys.

Re: Strange Pearly Gates

I have both. The older tags were printed with a rubber stamp, the newer ones printed on a label printer. The change happend early to mid 90ies, some time before the logo silkscreened bobbins came up.
