Strat Fretboard Advice: Maple vs. Rosewood

Re: Strat Fretboard Advice: Maple vs. Rosewood

Shy Boy, I guess it would be interesting to use maple fingerboard with JB and Jazz. The sound will be more sharp, i think

Re: Strat Fretboard Advice: Maple vs. Rosewood

i know i am partial to maple when it comes to strats:beerchug:

Keep the maple board and lose the JB :rocket: (they suck).

this is NOT true!:smack:
hey bro i dont think it is too cool to go around saying that the most popular and best selling duncan bucker sucks!
especially here on a duncan forum:smack:
to you it may have "sucked" but to about 40,000 other players it is a godsend of a pup:beerchug:

Well, allright, but I dont think its kool for you guys to go around lile a JB will solve all of yur problems and is adaptable to all styles of music. I'm just trying to throw into relief the faults of that pickup and explain that there are other good pickups out there.:soapbox:

and besides, it sounds an awful lot like your trying to repress me

My advice is not to alter the guitar for the pickups. Either use what you have already, or use different pickups. No sense in major surgery over a minor surgery error.

Re: Strat Fretboard Advice: Maple vs. Rosewood

I agree with him, just probably not on what pups to use... but thats not really your question is it.

Wow. I didn’t realize I would start such a catfight over the pickups. There are obviously a lot of strong opinions on the subject and it sounds like I either made a really good choice or a really bad one. From what I’ve read, it sounds like the maple neck will be fine. Then I will have to decide for myself if I’m in he love it or hate it camp.

Thanks again for all the input.

Hmm swipe through a few albums from the late 80's and early 90's.
Just because you guys do not like it, is not the same as it being a bad pickup at any rate!!!
+100

I have a love hate relationship with the JB... but that doesn´t make it a bad pickup by any means.. I don´t like it at the bridge very much, but there is no better neck pickup ;)

I find the JB lacks tightness and is a bit too nasal for the most part at the bridge, both things the Custom rectifies.

For metal he's probly right much as I hate to say it :gurmpy:, but then it's really about what you are going to do w/ your guitar, not what i would do with it ('course I'd rip that f*cker out and throw in a custom). But as to what you actually asked about yes, go maple.
