You know, the little pickgaurd on the back.

Mines off, dunno why, probably cause i saw hendrixs and them do it and so i coppied that. Also, I'm too lazy to put it back on.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

I didn't even buy one for either of my 2 parts gtrs.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

Useful place if you need to get very quickly to your spare strings, picks, smokes, and something else just in case you get lucky with that gorgeous girl you have been eyeing all night - but then I keep my cover on :saeek:

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

I leave it on all of my guitars except my '63. Some original 60's trem blocks are about 1/16" to 1/8" longer than modern ones and when the tremolo is blocked, they'll stick right out the back of the guitar! That's the case with my original '63 so I leave the back cover off of the guitar and in the case . Lew

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

I leave mine off, with the floating trem I have set up string changes are a huge pain with it on.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

I see alot of tremolo equiped guitars that have the cover missing. It almost makes me cringe seeing that on one of my own guitars. I just think it looks kind of trashy except, in Lews case where it is essential for proper tremolo operation. Its sort of a pet peave of mine.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

Depends on the guitar....

If the holes in the guard line up right with the trem block then it'll stay on. On my Clapton and 73' it's stayed on. My MIM is has been removed; it was just a hair off and I really needed that guitar for gigging.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

Actually none of my tremolo guitars have a back cover. Why I'm not sure, but I seem to like 'em that way.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

I leave mine on. My trem is blocked so I never need to access it. Plus it's pearloid, the ladies dig it.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

My only strat is a hardtail, but I do leave the covers on my Ibanez & ESP. I prefer to have them off, but when you're playing metal, the echo from the springs is a pain in the ass, so I put folded up kleenex in the back, and stuck the covers back on. It's the only echo-deterrant I've found that doesn't affect trem stability.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

i have an 83 strat.........mine doesnt even have a back cavity! hehe

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

i took mines off as it got stained a wierd bvlue form i dont know what. Frankly its a strat i think the more beat up it gets the nicer it is.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

i remember reading in a magazine somewhere that hendrix would take the cover off so that he could play around with the springs for some weird sounds like the crazy gunshot sounds at the end of machine gun. if you don't know the song, check it out right now!

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

Mine's gone, always has been. Don't know when I took 'em off or why, but, they're not there anymore.

Re: Strat Guys... Tremlo spring cover or no?

I have mine floating around, but they aren't on the guitar. The G&L one gets in the way of where I put the strings through on the block, it's retarded.

I agree that they are absolutely useless and I don't see where it changes the sound. I like the stripped look of it all too, so I voted "off". Good riddance...
