Strat/Legacy Vibrato Arm

I've always hated the Strat vibrato arm ... even worse my Legacy's version. It's huge. While the whole vibrato unit is way over-engineered, it does stay in tune. Well in both cases (Strat & Legacy), I just remove the arm and we are done.

Well ... noticed somewhere that David Gilmour cuts his down ... he uses a shorter version. Hmmm ...

So I cut my Legacy version down after asking around a bit at the G&L website. It really works much better ... the end of the bar fits under my 3rd and 4th finger on the right hand. Easier to get out of the way.

Might not leave it in there all the time but it certainly feels much better.

I bought an after-market bar for one of my refurbs, it needs the threaded part added to so it doesn't end up being way too high above the front of the guitar. I guess they figured Floyds need to go as fully slack as possible.

A shorter bar would be really handy on something like a Kahler that doesn't need a lot of muscle to work it.

Neat.. But isn't the bar end a bit sharp on the edges now?

PS: wonderful guitar you've got there!

G&L, started out with a smaller bar, but by the mid 80's they made them larger and longer. I still prefer their first style tremolo bar.

I have to agree with you that the end of the bar is too far forward on the guitar, and a shorter bar would be easier to use.

Actually I rounded the edges with a file ... then polished the whole area with emery cloth. All nice and smooth. I love the guitar too ... thanks.
