Strat Neck Pickup Position for Better Harmonics

Monsta-Tone

I know the theory of the harmonic located above the neck pickup on a Strat.
Throwing that theory away......has anyone here re-located their neck pickup a little bit closer to the bridge? Say, where the neck pickup would be on a 24 fret guitar?

I love the neck tones on my Strat, but they are just a bit/touch too bassy and I miss the harmonics that I get on my 24 fret guitars' neck pickups.

I was thinking of ordering a Warmoth pickgaurd with no neck pickup route and cutting my own route. The body on my Strat (American Deluxe) is routed for a humbucker, so I'd have the space.

Am I on to something or just looking for something to tinker with instead of playing my guitar?

For the excess bass, you can put a cap in series (3300-6800 range, give or take) with the neck pickups hot lead. As far as harmonics, I can't really say. Is you middle pickup similar or the same spec to you neck pickup, and how do you like the sound of that position compared to the neck posisition?

Same pickup in two different sets. Lace Hot Golds, and Carvin AP-11's. I like the Carvins much more than the Lace!

Both sound great with lots of harmonics in the middle, but not the neck.

I know I could also just get a brighter neck pickup, but I want the harmonics! My JS1000 has spoiled me. I can get harmonics everywhere on that guitar!

When you move it you ruin the sound of it.

I really prefer the sound of a neck pickup on a 24 fretter. I know I'm not going to get a traditional Strat tone, but a close approximation with many more harmonics and more snap is good enough for me.

Lower the pickup height.

I'll give it another try this afternoon. I lowered it a bit yesterday, but then got busy fixing amps and forgot all about it.......
The problem with the Hot Golds (I guess all pickups), is that there is a point where it is far too low and the sound gets too weak and thin.
I'll try to make smaller adjustments.
