Strat notch positions (series/parallel) switch: plausible?

Hi guys,
i'm sure this must have come up before, so does anyone possibly have a schematic for a switch/push-pull or whatever than turns the notch (2/4) positions of a strat 5 way switch from series to parallel & back?

Cheers.

Re: Strat notch positions (series/parallel) switch: plausible?

Yeah, the Fender S1 switching system does just this. I don't know what type of switch they use, but it's definitely doable.

Re: Strat notch positions (series/parallel) switch: plausible?

Thanks mate, I guess i'l have to see if I can find a diagram of fenders scheme.

Re: Strat notch positions (series/parallel) switch: plausible?

Does the S1 system do it automatically? If not, then you can do it with a push-pull, but it will have to be done manually when you get to those positions.

Re: Strat notch positions (series/parallel) switch: plausible?

This schematic uses a Tele 4-way switch + a 3-way dpdt.

The 4-way works like this:

Bridge
middle
neck
neck+bridge

The 3-way:
adds middle in parallel
does nothing
adds middle in serial

...with whatever is selected with the 4-way.

Re: Strat notch positions (series/parallel) switch: plausible?

Excellent - I dont see why theyve made it a 3 way when just series/parallel would suffice - seeing as though the parallel selection is just "output to switch as normal"

Edit: oh yeah, it actually sends the middle output nowhere - sorry - it's early :S hehe

nonetheless, that's perfect - thanks very much.

Editx2: ok, maybe not - yours adds the middle, where'as i'm trying to see if I can change the notch positions. Also, surely under that scheme, with the switch in "bypass" you cant select the middle? I mean, it doesnt output anywhere under that circumstance, surely?

Editx3: I really cannot find a diagram of fenders S1 switch strat - does anyone have one?

Thanks hermetico - I looked through all the deluxe strat control displays & none of them seem to affect notch positions only (they all seem to be <b+m> - <b+m> - <all3> - <m+n> - <m+n>)

DazH: I did this years ago, and I know I initially had problems. If you search for old threads (2004), ArtieToo and I debug this switching. I'm assuming this is the final diagram, but it may not be.

Looking at the diagram, it looks like the middle position of the dpdt ("bypass") is wrong. This might be the original diagram that ArtieToo figured out for a 3-way strat switch:

Thanks hermetico, I havent had a chance to study the diagram yet, but i'l save it & take a good look at it this week.
