Strat pickup wiring doubt

So, i want to apply this wiring to my strat so it can be very versatile, (I've just started with wiring electronics and stuff) and i have a doubt, what is that thing that between the pickup selector and the lug of the volume pot? (Red wire) It looks like a capacitor but i don't know.

Re: Strat pickup wiring doubt

That looks odd.

Its not usual to have a cap on the hot lead from the switch.....I'd just ignore it as the other caps seem to have been drawn as pictorial icons not as electrical schematic components.
There should be a strat version of this on the web too....which will take into account the 2 tone pot wiring.

Essentially all this wiring comes down to is stock strat but with a switch adding in either bridge or neck to the output.

I don't know what that is. It's not a cap. That would make no sense, plus there is no component included in the kit he sells that would go there.

What I think it is is a symbol that one would use to indicate that even though two wires cross each other in the diagram, they are not connected. There's a wire that's part of the neck-on circuit. It runs from one of the lugs on the pickup switch to the top-left lug on the push-pull switch (top-left in the diagram; it would be bottom-right on the switch itself). I'm thinking he might originally have intended to draw that wire so that it didn't cross over the switch, but went around the switch to the right. I'm thinking that in anticipation of that, he inserted the weird little symbol into the red wire, through which he intended to run that black wire. Then he would have realized that routing it that way would make the diagram too cramped, and would require a second one of those weird little symbols. So he decided to just have it jump over the switch instead...but he forgot to get rid of the weird little symbol that he had made in the red wire. That's my best guess.

There's no good reason to use that particular diagram to inform you in your Strat mod. All you need to add to your Strat is a neck-pickup-on switch. That's a very common wiring mod, and you can find diagrams all over the place, specifically for Strats. There is even one in the Strat section of that same Website from which you got the diagram you posted:

Just add a switch and two wires. It takes the neck pickup and sends it straight to the switch output any time you want.

That is kinda odd, because that is the symbol for a cap, but I don't see any reason to use one.

I'd just do as others have said and get rid of it.
