Strat Pickups in Mahogany?

So pretty soon I want to replace the pickups in my Gretsch BST-1000, and I was thinking of maybe going with Strat pickups. The guitar is a mahogany body with a 24 fret, 24.75 inch maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, and has a top loading hardtail bridge. I was thinking of putting an SSL-6 in the neck and an SSL-3 in the bridge. Any opinions on how this might sound? My main concern is that the guitar's pronounced midrange will make the single coils sound unbalanced and bland. I know the pickups won't have the same sound as in a strat, but I just hope they would still sound somewhat straty.

I've heard Kinman noiseless pickups in a maple neck though/mahogany body strat copy and that thing was pretty bloody nice...

Don't worry, just get a set with A5 rods and it'll be as stratty as it could be.

I have a PRS SE EG, a SSS all mahogany guitar with a 25" scale. I've changed the ****ty ceramic p'ups and guts because they sounded like nails in a chalkboard, so I've put StewMac's hot set of SC. If I don't tell that's NOT a strat, nobody would've guessed it on a record.

cool, I'll try it out and see how it sounds, never hurts to experiment

Re: Strat Pickups in Mahogany?

I figure it won't sound exactly like a strat, that's not what I'm going for either, will it have any sort of sparkle and spank though, or will it be a bland mess?

It probably will be spanky and tight. I have a 69 Thinline that has a chambered mahogany body and it's spankieer and twangier than a lot of solid ash and alder tele's I've played. Of course, I have a Zhangbucker Paul Bunyan tele set in her, which is a big part of it, I think.
