So pretty soon I want to replace the pickups in my Gretsch BST-1000, and I was thinking of maybe going with Strat pickups. The guitar is a mahogany body with a 24 fret, 24.75 inch maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, and has a top loading hardtail bridge. I was thinking of putting an SSL-6 in the neck and an SSL-3 in the bridge. Any opinions on how this might sound? My main concern is that the guitar's pronounced midrange will make the single coils sound unbalanced and bland. I know the pickups won't have the same sound as in a strat, but I just hope they would still sound somewhat straty.
