Strat pickups with SSL5-like shape/case

I have a custom built start-like guitar with single coils which base plate is not triangular like standard Strat pickups but has shape like SSL-5s:

Can I buy any Strat pickup and remove the base plate? Or replace the plate with a plate that fits into my body? Out of curiosity, why do SSL-5s have different shape than the majority of Strat pickups? I am looking for true single coil vintage low-output PUs.

Welcome to the forum!
I know any SD single coils are available with either bottom plate as a Shop Floor Custom.
