hello terry here i just put a seymour duncan sh4 jb in my squier hss strat and love it my question is in position 2 it does not hum cancel if i swap the neck and middle pickups around will that do the trick or do i need noiseless pickups in the neck and middleonce again it is an hss with an sh4 jb in the bridge

Re: strat pickups

If you are mixing the full humbucker with a single coil of any polarity/winding, it will not hum cancel. Swapping neck and middle won't fix that; you can instead wire your bridge + mid position to combine the mid single with whatever humbucker coil is the opposite polarity * . From there, you'd need (at most) to reverse the hot & ground leads of one pickup to get hum cancelling; or if your pickups are in phase at that point, you would be good to go. Google "Autosplit wiring" and choose the applicable diagram. **

*The usual coil to use when splitting is the slug coil, so if you want to do that then you can determine which pickup between the neck & middle is opposite polarity to the slug coil, and switch it to the middle position if required. Alternatively you can flip the humbucker magnet so the slug coil is reverse polarity from the middle, if you need to (that's the better option if your mid & neck have different DCR.)

Re: strat pickups

This is one of the most common "problems" in all of guitardom. Google "auto split" for Stratocaster for the gist of the solution. What you must also do is determine which of the two pickup coils will hum cancel with your middle pickup. I do not know this off hand (even if I did know what pickups you have).
