Strat Presence Control from EMG

Has someone used this? Can I single coil sound like a dual or humbucker?

I have used the SPC with many different types of pickups. Yes, it will make a single sound more like a bucker. It will turn an ordinary bucker into a hot pickup. It will turn a hot pickup into a flame thrower. Its a great unit and it can be used on ANY type of pickup.

I'm going to check it out.. The thing is that I want to buy the EMG DG-20 pickup set, and the SPC is included.

My nephew has the DG-20 set. He likes it pretty much, but the EXG circuit was a little overkill with the noise. The SPC control also added noise, but the tone shift it offers is worth that tradeoff. Makes for a very versatile setup in the DG-20. I wish they would sell the DG-20 set with a 60 bridge and a regular universal tone knob instead of the EXG. It would be very nice that way.

Your nephew's strat gets noise with the boost?

Mine's dead quiet.

i bought one but havent put it in yet. i used one with an emg setup for years in my main guitar. sv, sv, 81 (then 85 near the end of the emg phase) with a pa2 and spc. its a very cool mid boost.

I had one. It was, well, blah, compared to the Fender Clapton boost kit. But the EMG SPC is much easier to install. The Clapton boost is great, but a headache wiring.

I have had both the the EXG and SPC in an EMG based guitar (one that I just sold in fact) at different times. Seems to me like these are not your "crank it all the way up" controls. Depending on how much gain/distortion you like with your sound, there is a chance this could add a bit of noise if it's cranked up all the way. The SPC sounded pretty nice with my EMG89 in single coil mode - really fat, but still with some single coil clarity. It really fattened up my neck SA pickup.

The EXG was something I tried out for awhile - mid cut, simultaneous treble and bass boost. For my guitar at that time which was basswood with an all maple neck, I didn't really care for it. The guitar I had it on also had a double locking tremolo, which got pretty annoying after awhile. But I think with the right guitar, the EXG could be a pretty cool thing. My opinion on the EXG is that it's only good with EMG single coils - it sounded kinda lame on the 89 and 81's I tried it with.
