Strat question

Re: Strat question

Fender factory made double hum-b Telecasters and Stratocasters. It's not like you made this up yourself. Fender sets precedence.

Re: Strat question

I think more about body shape than anything else when I'm thinking of things like "Strat," "Les Paul" or whatever. To me, a Les Paul with a Floyd Rose is still a Les Paul. I would admit to wondering what the oiix is going on if you fitted a LP with single coils. However, a humbucker-loaded Strat still says "Strat" to me. Heck, I've got a Tele with three singles, and that's always a Tele to me.

Actually, LP's initially had single coils, P-90's, from 1952 to 1956, so someone could argue that those are the true LP's, and all the thousands of LP's that came after that with PAF's and other HB's are imposters. See how ridiculous this gets? It's so arbitrary. Pick a random date, and proclaim that everything after that isn't the 'real thing.' Who annointed him to decide that date for the rest of us?

If Fender makes a guitar and calls it a 'Strat', it's a Strat regardless of the PU's, fretboard, or vibrato (or lack thereof). Hit him upside the head with your fat Strat & knock some sense into him.

Actually, I almost remarked parenthetically about the P-90s, but then figured people wouldn't split hairs with that one. Guess I was wrong. :)

Re: Strat question

I just got a Fender Strat with 2 humbuckers. Someone told me that it wasn't a "real" Strat without the classic 3 single coil configuration. He believes the guitar is ruined and is just another "dumb metal guitar". His words. This guy is old school. He has played Strats and Teles since the dawn of time and is into country music. What do you guys think? I respect his opinion but I think differently.

Tell him he is not a real guitarist unless he plays metal.

Never underestimate my ability to split hairs to prove a point, son. Besides, one could argue that since P-90's were around before Leo's skinny little PU's, that P-90's are the real single coils, and the Strats have fake low-budget imposters.

Parenthetically? Man, the words are getting too big in this conversation for me... Can we make a no 5 syllable word rule so that I don't hurt my brain?

Re: Strat question

The thing that makes a Strat not a Strat (both sound-wise and feel-wise) is the lack of the tremolo block. But people seem to have no problems calling a hardtail a Strat.

Re: Strat question

A strat with a HH setup is still a strat to me. Even with the hardtail. Is it going to sound like a strat? Maybe not. Is it a real strat? If it's made by Fender Mexico, Japan, and USA, then it's a REAL Fender Strat. I think the old guy is bashing your preference in guitars.

Well, Fender has no problem calling a hardtail a Strat.

Re: Strat question

If it has a Strat body, that's a Strat to me. It may not be a 'traditional' Strat, but that doesn't make it dumb. Fender makes HH Teles with set necks and carved tops...still says Tele on the headstock.

I do... and I already said so in this thread. :naughty:

I bet he'd **** a kidney if you showed him my "Tele" with the slanted EMG and Floyd that I posted on the Dean board.

Tell him that THIS IS F-ING ROCK AN ROLL!!! YOU'LL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!
Traditionalists are the biggest roadblock to progress. my HH strat will kill any wimpy single coil strat. And so will yours.

Hmmm, well really if I was a real hick and wanted to play real hick music I would play a tele over a strat. Some die hard hicks would tell him he's not real country with a strat-LOL-me I dont care as long as it plays well and does what I want it to do, but then again I'm not the pot calling the kettle black

Re: Strat question

An electric guitar is a neck stuck to a lump of wood. What you put on that lump of wood pick-up wise is entirely up to you. There is no issue of right or wrong, just personal preference.

Re: Strat question

A strat is a strat is a strat...is a fender.

he's an idiot.

People say the same thing about my tom delonge strat and jaguar with humbuckers.

i mean... last time i checked they DID say fender on the headstock ;)

Re: Strat question

Hey. Get some paint or Letraset and decorate your HH Strat with the ol' Woody Guthrie message, "This Machine Kills Fascists"
