I have a Fender MIM Deluxe Roadhouse Strat, which I bought new last December. The saddle height screws are pretty high on the low E, and they bite into my hand when I rest it on the bridge. How do most players remedy this? Do they apply abrasive materials to the top of the screw? Cut it down on the bottom? Replace it? How many different sizes and thread dimensions are there of these screws?

Cut it on the bottom. Saw with a hardend steel blade and some key files or sanding paper to smooth. Great outcome.

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Specialist engineering and fastener suppliers have them in different lengths, they are only
common "grub" screws outside of the guitar world.
If I can't be bothered with the drive to the shop, I just grind down the bottom of the screw
On a bench grinder. I place the screw on the allen key with a rare earth magnet from Jaycar
on the key to hold it all together so the screw doesn't fly away when grinding.
Hardest thing is to get the powerful magnet off, sticks like pooh to a blanket!

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Does anyone know the specs on the saddle height screws on a MIM Strat? (It's a Deluxe Roadhouse.)

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Or I could just buy the Callaham saddles?

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Yeah, let's do that.

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Shim the neck and raise the saddles? Find a shorter length grub screw? Make sure you don't have the middle and outer-string grub screws exchanged?

Re: Strat saddle height screws

All the grub screws are the same height from the factory. Finding shorter ones is my first choice for a solution. Shimming the neck would be my last choice.

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Shorter screws from the hardware store always seem like a good idea...until they kill your tone. Vintage mojo gone!

That's what I was afraid of -- that, and spending enough time finding hardware store screws to pay for a new bridge. So I ordered the Callaham saddle kit.

Re: Strat saddle height screws

I switch mine to Graph-Tech ones, which don't have that problem. I hate hitting the strings hard with the bridge biting you...ow!

Re: Strat saddle height screws

Remove the neck and adjust body / neck angle , it 's very easy to do

Re: Strat saddle height screws

I'd prefer not to shim the neck. I did lower the rear of the bridge, though, to bring it a little closer to the face of the guitar. That might get me to raise the saddles just a very small amount.
