Hiya!

Well, this is my first time posting, so heres my question.

Are there any strat pickups around that sound like a P-90? Thanks!

Re: Strat-size P-90 question

The Lindy Fralin Steel Pole 43 is the best one that I know of. Really great pickup...I use one in the bridge position of my '92 MIJ Candy Apple Red Strat with a Fralin Vintage Hot neck and middle. The SP 43 has adjustable polepieces and a powerful ceramic magnet under the pickup coils. It really does get a great P90 ish tone. Lew

Thanks! Another quick question if you don't mind, what do adjustable pole pieces really do? How do they affect the sound and tone of the guitar?

As far as I know the adjustable polepieces are meant to boost the output of a string that sounds weaker compared to the other strings. Also, if you raise all polepieces in one coil of a humbucker, it alters the overall voice of the pickup towards more highs.
Hope this helps.

To be more specific: if you adjust a polepiece under a string closer to the string, the string will sound louder when amplified. This was meant primarily for the high e strings, as they naturally tend to sound weaker than other strings ont he guitar.

Some people says Quarter pound has a P-90 tone...

Re: Strat-size P-90 question

Thanks for the answers, now just one last question.

Would an RW/RP middle pickup, such as the Fender Fat 50s or the Seymour Duncan SSL-1 set, remove the hum from a Lindy Fralin Steel Pole 43? Or would I need to use other Lindy Fralin pickups to remove the hum? Thanks!
