Strat string guage. You guys like heavier?

Re: Strat string guage. You guys like heavier?

My 11's started to feel too slinky, so I decided to bump up to 12's, but the package on set I got (DR Pure Blues) didn't say the third string was wound, and now bending is a nightmare.

esquire gets 10/14/18/26/36/50 pure nickel
strats and other 25.5 guitars besides the esquire tuned to std pitch 11/15/19/28/38/54 pure nickel
detuned strat 12/16/20/30/42/59 nickel plated steel
gibson scale guitars besides hollowbody which gets 13-56 flat wounds, 11/14/18/28/38/50 nickel plated steel

i like the brighter strings on the shorter scale instruments

Re: Strat string guage. You guys like heavier?

I'm down to two electrics, a Strat and a Hamer, and they, like all the others over the last 12 yrs or so get 11s. I just like the meatier feel.

Re: Strat string guage. You guys like heavier?

I used to play 13-56's on my Strat, but GAWD DAYUM, it was just too much. I can play with more control now that I've stepped down to less "ambitious" strings.

I tried big fat strings (flatwound 12's) on my 335 and they were too much as well.

I can generally say though, that you're out of your mind.

The scale length thing for me generally means bigger strings on Gibson, smaller strings on Fenders.

11s feeling too slinky? Are you in standard tuning? You must have very strong hands. I think 12s would kill me.

Re: Strat string guage. You guys like heavier?

I use a 9-11-16-20-36-46 stainless steel set on every guitar I own with the exception of my Teles and Les Paul. Those use a 10-13-17-30-42-52 set, also stainless steel.

Re: Strat string guage. You guys like heavier?

I used to put quite heavy strings on my Squiers (11) and really liked the feel but something went wrong with my fretting middle finger (it became painful to play after a while) so I use 9's on them now and everything is alright.
