Curios as to how many springs you use?
All straight across..From the block to the claw
Angled...From the block to the claw
Bridge floats from the body
Bridge is flush to the body

Thanks all...John

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I normally use 3 springs that are angled on the left and right and the middle spring is straight and I use the 3 inner claw tangs to hold the 3 springs...I Like the back of my bridge floating and with about 3/32" gap measured from the rear of the bridge to the body..I always use .010 gauge strings...How about all of you?

I normally use 5 but I needed a couple for another guitar so now I'm using three until I can get 2 more.

Thanks Chris...Do you not use your vibrato then and if so,can you move the bar down easy enough or is it very stiff? :)

Well, I use to use it once in awhile, and it was kind of stiff, but nothing too bad. But a couple weeks ago I was bouncing the guitar on the ground ala SRV and the bar broke so it doesnt matter anymore :smack:

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I use 3 angled twords the center with the middle one straight. Never really use the vibrato cause it doesn't fit in the hole the right way (stupid mexi strats), but its easy enough to use and pretty much stays in tune.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I have one strat and I use all 5 springs to keep the bridge flush on the body. I did it initially because I thought it might help with tuning problems I was having. I don't use the tremelo on this guitar. At first it felt really stiff, but now I kinda like "fighting" the strings :) If I ever change it, or get another strat, I think I'll do 3 springs: one middle, outer two angled in.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

No problem with 3 spring w/t .010s. But if I go to .011s gotta put the
other 2 springs on. Or better yet block it. :)

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I use 3 on my vintage trem John. I was playing 10's, but recently switched back to 9's because I really liked the way they felt and sounded on the Hwy 1 that I bought. I go 9-46's now.

I like my vintage trem flush against the body. I put enough tension on the springs so the bridge does not raise off the body whey I do double stop bends...but only just enough. With 3 springs I can still down trem easily enough on the passages I like to use it on....like Lenny. This gives me great tuning stability....

I go outer springs angled out and middle spring straight.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I have an older strat that was turned into a hard tail some time ago and I always liked the tone of it. Then I got another with the trem in it, and couldnt stand the fact that when I wanted to bend one note and play another, it would go slightly sharp. I have 5 springs in there, and its flush with the body. I still do use the trem however, you just have to fight it a little more.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

One spring. I blocked mine flush against the body, but I still wanted that vibrating spring sound so I left one in there. This one has 13s.

The other ones a Floyd Rose. Three springs, two on the bass side, one on the high. I float my bridge with the bottom parallel and even with the top of the body. This one has 11s.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

On my MIM strat I use 3 in the triangle shape using 11-48s and on my Kramer strat copy I use 4, 2 on the bass side and two on the treble side, using 11-54s. I think I am going to put a fourth spring on my MIM, I like the extra tension it puts on the trem. It makes it so you don't divebomb a note on accident.

On the MIM I have the bridge floating just a little bit and the Kramer is flush because I change tunings on it sometimes(its my bitch guitar :) )

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I use .010's on my Strats, John.
In my 60's Reissue I have 4 trem springs and find that it rarely goes out of tune if at all. I float the trem at about 3/16" off the body so I can pull up a note or two.
In my Amer. Standard I use 3 springs and find the trem action to be very smooth, and also have it adjusted about 3/16". I can't get the string action low enough if I go any higher. It works for me. I may go to 4 springs on that guitar as it has shown me a few tendencies to slip out of tune a little.

i use 3 but i wnat to add two more because i use .10-.52 strings

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I just completely blocked my SX Strat. I like trems to have at least as much down push as a Wilkinson, any less and it's just not worth it to me. But this, could just be the buttrocker within me speaking :newangel:

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

All throughout the 90's, I mostly played Strats, and had to come to terms with the fact that strat trems ARE NOT Floyd Roses. I've never been able to get one to stay in tune when wanking on it. I anchor them down tight with 5 springs, put Graphtech stringsavers on only the 3 plain strings, and to me, they perform and sound killer setup like that. No tuning hassles, no broken strings, and the string to string balance is perfect with that odd saddle setup. I got used to 11-49's for a long time, but I backed them down to 10-46 and lightened my touch lately. If you get used to rippin on 11's, you can blaze a fretboard with 10's or lighter.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

on my non backrouted ibanez, i use 4 to keep it flush (the screws are tightened quite far back)

on my squier strat i use 4 in the same way to keep that flush too

Same thing except .009 D'Addario on the Blonde Strat and the Warmoth
3 Springs and Flat to the body on the Roadhouse (tuned down 1/2)
I have been known to go about 1/8 on the back or more if I wanna be Jeff
