Three springs angled and the Fender 2 point is set-up floating for 1/2 step upwards.

Usually three if I want it to act like a "true, classic Strat." More if I want a stiffer, less "warbling" sound.

I used three for years but just tried using 2. Much better! The claw is backed up all the way but the tension is just right on the trem, feels more like a Jazzmaster now.

Curios as to how many springs you use?
All straight across..From the block to the claw
Angled...From the block to the claw
Bridge floats from the body
Bridge is flush to the body

Thanks all...John

All 5 springs, straight.
Bridge foats from the body, about 4 mm of gap.
Very stable but, it's the deluxe bridge, floating on two posts and, for sure, the locking keys help to this.

Wow, this thread is from a period in forum history most users refer to as the pre-Phil era. (Don't burst my bubble)

Anyhow, I use 3 springs, bottomed out on the body. Strat trems are useless to me, so I play it as a hardtail, but didn't feel like blocking it. I have a paranoid delusion that it will affect the tone, and I like my tone.

i tend to use VIBRATO bridges for diving only... usually 2 or 3.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I use always at least 3 springs, never two. I most of the time have the bridge floating as well. ATM I have 9's anad the 3 are straight not angled. If I use 9-46 or 10's I go 3 angled and with 11's I went with 4 springs. When I want dive-only I use 5 and crank them up.

Re: Strat Users With .010s How Many Tremolo Springs Do You Use?

I can't really vote for a couple of reasons

#1..... I use 11's

#2..... I have 5 Strat's

I have a couple of Strats that I hardly ever use the whammy(other then putting a little emphasis on an ending chord)

I have two Strats that have been set up to use the whammy more aggressively. These guitars were setup with graphite saddles, graphite nuts, locking tuners and 4 or 5 springs. I am still experimenting on the # of springs but I am leaning towards all 5. This makes pulsing the whammy a bit more difficult. As I said I am not completely convinced it's right for me yet, but what I do like about it is I am fairly aggressive with my vibrato in my left hand and with all 5 springs the bridge stays down on the body(which is how I prefer to setup my Strats) If I remove a spring I need to increase the claw pressure to minimize the bridge from lifting up So you can see that I don't think I have completely solved the whammy issue yet, but I am very close...

MIM 2005 Strat. 10's. Vintage Syncro trem. 5 springs, stiff. Trem flush on body. Never use it.
