having a strat with a hipshot fixed bridge really intrigues me and i think it looks incredible,
does anyone know how difficult it is to change the bridge on a strat and perhaps the pros and cons of changing it from the stock unit

Re: strat with hipshot bridge?

If you are replacing a hardtail bridge yes.

If you're replacing a trem, then no.

Re: strat with hipshot bridge?

Short answer.....you don't.

Longer answer involves a lot of woodwork to replace what the trem rout removed..........or buying another guitar with a hardtail.

Re: strat with hipshot bridge?

You could use smoother saddles like the Graphtecha. Block the trem and it's close.

I dislike the sharpness of the saddles on the stock fender trem

Re: strat with hipshot bridge?

If your talking about the "Fender" stamped steel saddles with the tall Height adjustment screws sticking out. yeah, they are not very comfortable.

I often will grind the bottoms of them to get them flush on the top at my preferred string height.
OR
I have rerouted my neck pocket with a slight angle So I can run them almost all the way up and still be within my preferred string height. this "may" require rear pickup height screw mods though sometimes.

Either method works.

but yeah, the Hipshot Contour bridges are very comfy.

The trem on my Yamaha is like the fender steel saddle and I've cut my hand when attempting to palm mute on it
