after being told not to reroute my guitar for humbuckers..i wanted to ask if anyone could tell me about single coil humbuckers..im looking for a nice heavy sound.. im looking to make this guitar like a shred guitar like paul gilbert, evh and ynwie but also like to play metallica and such..can anyone suggest
a single coil humbucker that would be good?? also someone is it worth to get a custom wound one..thanks

Re: stratocaster/pickups

A JB Jr at the bridge, Vintage Rails in the middle, and Cool Rails in the bridge will get you in the ballpark of the sounds you mentioned. Perhaps for a Hotter bridge tone, you might be better served with a Hot Rails, though the lower gain tones will suffer.

As far as it being worth getting custom pickups or not, that all depends. If there's nothing out there that gets the sound you want, and you don't mind paying for it, then yeah, it's worth it.

:burnout:

Re: stratocaster/pickups

i think a hot rails/vintage rails/cool rails combo would be great for you. nice heavy bridge, warm smooth neck and a little strat thrown in the middle for some versitility and a nice clean tone

I think so, and so do a lot of people. Ultimately though, the final decision will be yours.

Re: stratocaster/pickups

I think either of these suggestions are good. The hotrails bridge would be heavier, thicker, hotter but it may be to hot.

IMO, no! I got a JB jr. in my strat, and I am going for a full size humbucker in mine. A full size humbucker will sound fatter or bigger if you like.

Who told you not to reroute your guitar? Is it a vintage?
If not there should not be a problem.

Re: stratocaster/pickups

its not vintage..a person i know who is licensed to work on fender/gibson/tacoma/martin/taylor and has his own lines of guitars suggested i dont do it but rather to put in single coil sized humbuckers instead

Re: stratocaster/pickups

how much hotter is the hot rails compared to the JB jr?
If the JB jr is good for shredding how is it with Heavy riffs?
and if the hotrails is good with heavy riffs how is it with shredding?

I have to admit that I havent tried out other SC size humbuckers in my guitar, but I've played quite a few in others. IMO they just sound "weak". I can't really explaine it but they just don't sound right to me. They just dont get that sound I like.
