String action gauge ?

So, soon i'll be taking three of my guitars to local service man to install new pickups, tuners, some electronics and to do setup of guitars. The thing is, i don't know how to tell him where to set the gauge of string action.. i want something not to high, something not to low. so somewhere around middle, i guess.. What's your favorite string action gauge ? i play a lot of different styles of music, from blues to metal, i use to band a lot.. please, write some suggestions.. thanks !

Just tell your tech exactly what you just told us. If he's worth his salt, he'll get it close enough for you. If you have a guitar that has the action set up just right for you, you could even bring that along to show him.

Well, i got some problems with SG. the action is low. actually i only can band with my ring finger. but if i want to bend with middle finger i can't it's too low...

If you have a feeler gauge and your guitar has the action you like at this moment measure each string from the 12th fret and tell your tech the measurements or have him take the measurements when you hand it to him.
