String break at nut

Last night I was playing my acoustic and broke the G string at the nut. I was bending the string when it broke, but not wildly. Never happened before.

Is it just a weak string? Could something about the nut be the culprit?

They are Elixirs and no more than 2 months old. I play the acoustic maybe once every other day.

could be a couple things

the G slot on my Martin wore down years ago, just from restringing ... a repair shop just filled in a little Super Glue

the string may have just had a kink there

you probably should just check the slot for the angle of the break, and any signs of a sharp angle

the nut slot at my g string is giving me headaches for months.. also the g string tuner is gonna bite the dust soon
