Hi all
im new on here and my first post...im hoping someone can help with a spacing issue im having...i have just replaced the neck pickup on my jap strat with an ssl 2
and the poles dont line up
after searching this topic i have found out that gibson is 50 mm Jap strat (and mim ) is 52.5 mm and american strat 56.5 so my theory is SD bieng american is suited
to the american spacing
so....do Seymour Duncan do a single coil with the smaller (52.5 ) spacing or do i have to go with a blade type ??

WELCOME TO THA FORUM

Right you have to either deal wit it because it still works; get a cool rails instead; or go custom shop. There's no tighter spaced ssl2.

Re: String spacing issues

Yup, I agree. Keep in mind that the strings don't need to pass over the poles perfectly for it to work. The magnetic fields don't travel straight up, but spread out instead.

And oh yeah... welcome to the forum!

Re: String spacing issues

How far are the poles off? Do you notice a difference in the balance of the strings? On many guitars, poles aren't perfectly centered, yet the strings pass within the flux patterns of the magnets. I also get it if it bothers you that they are off. Seymour Duncan only makes one pole spacing for the SSL-2, and don't currently have a vintage output true single coil with a rail. So you can either bump up the output to something like a Hot Stack, or go with something like a Vintage Rails.

Re: String spacing issues

thanks for your replies....its nearly the whole pole out on the thinnest E...ive noticed a slight drop in volume on that string, i will raise the height of the pickup to see if that helps a bit
probably just my ocd kicking in lol

Re: String spacing issues

OCD gets the best of me in these situations, too, even if I don't hear a difference.

Re: String spacing issues

Hi, Welcome,
On a small positive note, when you bend the high E and B strings, they could get a touch louder, as the those 2 strings would now move closer to the center of the poles. The G and D strings should be fine, and because the lower strings like A and E may be off center, but as Mincer said, the magnetic field does spread out like morning fog, and the low strings, by dint of being bigger in diameter might be better balanced as they are louder anyway.
