Strings and Pickups

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me why the strings line up perfectly across the screws on the neck and not on the bridge pickup, is this normal? The neck is a pg and the bridge is a custom 5. The pickups were made for the positions there in, so shouldn't the strings line up with the bridge as they do with the neck. I'm new to all this pickup nonsense, well that's what I used to think, until I joined this forum.

Peace

the string spaceing on most newer tom-bridges is wider, so you need a trembucker(trem spaced) pickup to compensate fort that,so the poles line up right.

Re: Strings and Pickups

The strings on the bridge pickup are pretty close, as you can see in the picture. I don't think that it affects the sound that much, but I'm not sure. These are the first set of pickups I've ever bought and I was never asked what kind of bridge or guitar that I had. You would think that it would be an important question. By the way, these where purchased online.

I agree.

One of my friends usd to fit an angled humbucker in the bridge of his Strat.

No-one ever noticed any significant problems with his sound...

Re: Strings and Pickups

On bridge pickups, it's not as crucial that the poles line up perfectly as it is on the neck, which has to transmit a lot more lows.

I got the same problenm with the strat and the Ibanez. In the strat I didn't found any problem in the sound range, but in Ibanez sound a little funny, I think is for the Trem ZR...

Re: Strings and Pickups

I always use Trembuckers on Strats...never on Gibsons or Epis.

I'm not even sure a Trembucker will fit in a normal Gibson mounting ring without modifying the ring a little.

I know whenever I put a Trembucker in a Strat pickguard cut out for a bridge humbucker I have to widen the existing cut out.

Re: Strings and Pickups

I just heard that in 1999 Gibson started using bridges that were slightly wider than the previous ones which in turn called for a trem spaced pickup to make the strings match up with the screws. I'm not sure if this true, does anyone know about this.
