well you can kinda get away with little to no adjustment if you are changing your tuning at the same time as you change the string gauges so that as much as possible, the total amount of tension exerted on the neck remains relatively unchanged. for example, if my guitar is setup for standard tuning with 9-42s, if I want to put a 10-46 set on and not have to adjust much at all, it might make sense to tune everything a half step down. 11-49s, a whole step down from standard, etc etc. you kinda have to experiment a lot with brand and string gauges to find what suits your guitar, your setup preferences and your playing style, but sometimes if I don't have time to do a full setup, I'll just change the tuning quick and dirty like that, and then adjust action, intonation etc later when i have time.
