Stripped truss rod on my old strat...expensive job...new neck...or?

Chickenwings

Alnico 6/8

Just ordered one for my old strat plus deluxe....hope it works.
Anyone else stripped a USA fender truss rod nut? How did you fix it.

On a USA strat, you have to drill out the plug, replace the nut, and either replace the plug, or leave it as is.

For what's its worth..

I had a truss rod nut seized to the rod this year - the rod came completely out! It was a one way truss rod and fortunately fixed cheaply.

Thanks fellas, thats all great info.
Hopefully i can just set the truss rod with the stewmac device, but i might replace the truss rod nut too.
trevorus...where can i get a new plug?

fwiw, that stewmac wrench worked great for me. my strat had the same issue.

thats good to hear. just gotta wait for the mail. Did you end up replacing the nut, or just keep using the old one with the gripper?

i didn't have to replace the nut. i just use that wrench when i need an adjustment. mine actually needs one now. i get weird sympathetic truss rod vibrations when there isn't enough tension on the rod, and they are back now....not as bad as they have been previously, and at one point i thought i was looking at a new neck, but that wrench worked out.

i recommend removing all the strings and tuners if necessary, especially the first time you adjust it.

good luck!

I sold the neck to somebody who already had the tool :)

Just got back from the repair guy on another refurb with the AS type truss rod. Actually just a refret and wood pick guard install.

Testing the rod, my truss rod plug popped out... It did show signs of that happening before (before it came into my possession). Oh well, easy fix.
