Stripping gold cover

Hey guys, I really need another pickup for the neck of my OLP. I don't really need a neck pickup accept for somewhat good cleans. I have an old gold covered epi stock pickup that is out of the bridge of my LP when I put the JB in it. Is it worth the trouble to strip the gold cover off and clean off the pickup underneith? What will it look like? How do I do this?

Are you talking about Removing the cover , or stripping the Gold off of the cover? If you want to see what color the bobbins are underneath the cover remove one of the screws that hold the bobbins to the baseplate you will be able to see the color. If you wan't remove the cover all you need is a good soldering Iron. Desolder the blobs of solder on the back of the pickup that hold the cover to the baseplate. Becareful not to overheat the pickup.
