Stroke my big blow hard ego for me-- listen to my music!

Re: Stroke my big blow hard ego for me-- listen to my music!

harmonics just fly off a Tele like that
yep--
Johnny Hilands Manager Mac Wilson also told me that those Hamonics came off on that recording better then hes ever heard-- he said they peeled off easily and right at the perfect spot.. he asked how I got them to come off like that.

I attributed that to that Broadcaster and my Picks Herco Heavys.. (30 years with the same pick--and a love of pinched harmonics.. may be helping things too?)
theres no dealy before the pichched harmonic hits ya -- it just sparks right in there.. and there always right at my finger tips-- I never miss them..

The dark neck 3-way switch setting is really a knock out-- .-13mfd..cap is used.
heck without that fast switch to a dark neck tone -- would one (I-me?) ever really remember to dial that tone off just to that perfect spot prior to nailing that dark neck tone into a Lead solo?-- I think not-- Roy Buchanan knew how to do it -- but in the heat of the battle I forget my own name and just whail away--I would quickly forget things like that after a few gigs..

Well - I must say, while Donzo bro's thread here betrays a certain eccentricity about him, I have to share my appreciation of his playing. I in fact have (I believe) an early or perhaps bootleg album of Buck Cannon "live" at some BBQ or something, and you know what? I'll be brutally honest. The band is okay, nothing to really say anything about, but Don's guitar playing is excellent, especially from a blues-perspective.

Some of the things he does on the Tele, like those cool volume-swells, now that's just downright cool, and personal. No effects, just a silky tone coming from in between a man's hands & an amplifier.

I hope guitar music really establishes itself once again, the way it did back in the day with "Wired" and "Johnny Winter Live" - albums like that, and folks actually going to see a guy play his guitar. Oh, NOT a guitar circus mind you - there's plenty of that already and it's all over the place ad nauseum. I really dig hearing a guy emote his soul through his guitar - and I especially can't stand it when I hear a guy start going in that beautiful but nasty direction only to ruin it by suddenly blowing an arpeggio he learned at GIT. It's so completely lame.

No - despite what differences Buck Bro & I have had over the years - I respect him as a great player.

Go the distance Buck ;-)

Re: Stroke my big blow hard ego for me-- listen to my music!

funny story i must tell,
we were trying to nail roy buchanans nancy guitar's tone here, i gave out this spec.. 5.9k brighe and neck-- this was the readings from buchanans nancy..
lollar sent a rendition, hamel sent his, oc duff sent his, fred stuart sent his and blew them all away....

then a guy named joel foy sent me a dead broken 1951 from texas-- joel said it was the best tele and that most anyone who heard it agreed.. simply the best bark and quality to the note out of all of them..

i unwound it by hand and recorded a uncanny wind pattern and rewound it and it was back full force!... i tried this pattern on a strat for junior watson and hes stoked!-- i then started doing mine--cutting the wire off of the fred stuarts here... after 3 trys i dialed in the traverse and naild roys nancy for the first time ever-- when we put it ib an a&b with the other top booteaks -- this wind simply cleaned their clocks-- no comparison.. it made the worlds best booteak's of today sound like crap-ola! swear to yA!

so here i am with a guitar just like roys-- and i go on stage night after night and walk away feeling like the audince never got my all-- like i was cut off at the pass...

i then read zz-tops book "billy f. gibbons" and they zz top that is realized early on that they had a forumla and they agreed "if it ain't broke"------

after reading that i thought it was time to get the dust of my ol' tele i dubed brownie!... and see if i would get more further and not walk off stage each night feeling like i was not expressing everything i am capable of...

it worked!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm right back on the duncans that started my whole bag--- and when i walk off a stage everyone in the room wants to talk a little--- much better--!!!!

it was not broke--

i had no bussiness trying to fix it---

i'll never make those mistakes again..

same goes for this music i play--

i am just going to do what roy was doing with it..

cause it works..

i am not going to try to change its form--

but instead use its forumla--

cheers
