Strymon El Capistan

Re: Strymon El Capistan

Its a fine little box. Close enough for most.

More convenient than a tape delay, but there's nothing like a tape delay.

Re: Strymon El Capistan

I like mine but not for simulating tape delay effects. I use it for digital delay sounds which it was born to do very well. It can sound high fidelity and very analogish running through an analog delay.

Re: Strymon El Capistan

I really like mine, it does everything I want and more (haven't got a favourite switch yet). I'm lucky enough to have never used a real tape echo so I don't know how much the difference is but for what you get in a small compact package that fits on your pedal board I think it's cool.

Re: Strymon El Capistan

Thanks for the kind words. That was just a Strat into the El Cap, and the stereo outputs of the pedal directly into an M-Box and the computer, no amp, mics, tubes or anything else, and no other processing in software. I fell asleep in my chair with all the recording gear on and the Strat on my lap. I woke up, and before switching it all off and going to bed, i just hit record and noodled while i was still half-asleep. I can do much better (i can even hear the missing notes that i thought i picked with my fingers, but missed, haha), but i just thought that little bit captured that moment when you wake up somewhere and feel fragile and confused for a few seconds. I was kinda 'playing to the echo'.

I know a few people can give reasons why Strymon stuff is not ideal, but I'm just a simple guitar player, it makes nice echo sounds that i can use to help make nice noises, the rest is up to me. In my little world, it works just fine.
