STRYMON LEX!

I am really considering this and thought I would ask here if anyone has some experience with this pedal. It looks pretty cool. Currently my board is pretty sparse. I use a Boss CE2(this is similar to the Strymon), a Boss DD3, Ibaneze TS9(modded), Wah & tuner. I have a few tunes that I think this would work on but would consider other options as well.

I have also considered this, but the foot print might be bigger then I want

Any opinions/ suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.....

Re: STRYMON LEX!

The Strymon Lex is in my top 3 of favorite pedals of all time. I spent a lot of time in a band with one of the world's best Hammond B3 players, Mike Mangan, so I got used to hearing his Leslie 147. The Lex in conjunction with my Boss Harmonist, both split into stereo, is as close to a Hammond as I've gotten a guitar to sound.

If you're considering other rotary pedals, you've got to realize that the Lex's knobs all serve two functions, and the ramp up/down really sounds like a Leslie changing speeds.

You can use it in mono into an amp, but if you split the signal between two amps, one amp will be the rotor and the other will be the horn. It's way more authentic that way.

Re: STRYMON LEX!

I know a lot of guys are hot on the Strymon stuff but I am not one of them...

I know they are all fairly compact and versatile but to me they just leave me wanting a better tone.

For Leslie sounds I am still using a H&K Rotosphere MK II and have yet to find anything I like better.

Re: STRYMON LEX!

Thanks. The H&K is way too big to fit on my board. I will take a closer look at this thanks GJ

Re: STRYMON LEX!

It's too big for my board too...so I set it to the side!

It's still a lot smaller than a 147.

That's for sure. Hey on another topic. Going to get my "BluesQueen" this weekend. Driving up tomorrow staying the night and back on Saturday. It's a lot of driving but well worth I have been chomping at the bit waiting for this. Brian's axes are pretty amazing

VERY COOL!!!

Tell Brian I said Hello...I'm sure he still hates me at this point but it never hurts to wish someone good wishes! LOL...

I expect a FULL report when you get her in hand and best of luck!

Re: STRYMON LEX!

I've got the old version Neo Ventilator - also a large footprint. It does the job well.

Re: STRYMON LEX!

I have a fender vibratone and still use the LEX for all my rotary sound.

I have tried for a lot of years and a lot of gear to get that vibratone leslie sound and the LEX and VENTILATOR are the only two that are close with the LEX being the closest!

Let me put it this way, if Jimi and SRV were alive today, they would be using a LEX!

I know that the Lex has a Vibratone mode but let me remind you that a Vibratone is not a true Leslie sound...

I bought Vibratone once and while it was cool for the Cold Shot sound and some of the stuff Mike Campbell did around the Wildflowers era it's just not a 122/147 type sound...

Without picture of your gear, I just plain don’t believe it!

Well, thats just rude...

Believe what? And while I am at it...why not?

I've never lied to you or anyone else on this or any other forum...you on the other hand have lied to me so if anyone shouldn't be trusted here it sure ain't me...

I assume you are talking about the Leslie...I had a model 16 in the 90's for a while and did like it but not enough to keep it, it's been gone for years. It was big, heavy and still didn't have the Leslie sound I wanted to hear...

Re: STRYMON LEX!

I'm going to get a Mobius come January and I'm really looking forward to the rotary machine.

And yes Christian, I realize that it doesn't sound 100%, or even 90%, like a real Leslie. I don't care. What the Mobius can do is good enough for me, especially for being only $450 and it coming with all of the other effects and capabilities it offers.

Not sure why you felt you needed to address me in this...

If it works for you then that's all that matters...if you think a H&K Rotosphere sounds just like a Leslie 122 or 147 you're wrong but since it's not $1000+ and isn't bigger than both of my gigging amps put together I use it.

You use whatever you want or like or feel like gets the job you have to get done, done.

Nothing personal here but I could care less what kind of gear you use as long as you like it then that's all that matters.

Re: STRYMON LEX!

LTF those clips sound great the floyd one is very lush, not a big fan of that fast leslie sound on guitars (awesome on B3's) but it slow settings sound great. Strymon stuff may not be 100% perfect but is nicer sounding then most pedals were 5 years ago. Not sure the analog modulation has been covered in the digital realm yet (haven't heard a digital phaser or flanger sound as nice as the analog counterparts) but its getting closer.

Re: STRYMON LEX!

LTF thanks for the clips. Just out of curiosity what other gear are you using in these clips(guitar amp, etc). Sounds great & I don't need headphones as I have a stereo speaker system on my PC.

I willo eventually have one of these but not right now. Waiting for a new guitar as I speak. I am currently using a Boss CE2 and I have a Danelectro Vibe pedal that I haven't been using(it doesn't fit on my board right now no power) with it to get something close to a Leslie effect but its not quite there. Maybe after the holidays I will pick one up. Thanks for all of your input. Christian about a years ago I was playing with a guy that had the H&K. It ws cool but again way too big. This tends to fit the bill a bit better. I like this Strymon Lex. Will have one soon...

Re: STRYMON LEX!

Sounds great. The gain control on the Lex gets that nice grindy organ tone. There's nothing cooler sounding than the Lex morphing between the slow and fast settings.....and you can even control that ramp up speed. It sounds like a Hammond/Leslie in the room......the only thing cooler is actually seeing the horn and rotor speeding up in a Leslie cab!

The El Capistan and EH Cathedral are two pedals I'm keeping on my radar. I like my T Rex Replica a lot, but it's not a really versatile delay. I'm going to swap it for an El Capistan or Timeline.

Re: STRYMON LEX!

Just FYI... As powerful as the Timeline is, and even with all the knobs available for twisting, it's still a bank/patch type pedal as opposed to a knob twiddling pedal. The Timeline can produce a ridiculous array of delay effects, but I'm thinking that the El Capistan might be a little more useful *to me* since its all right there in front of me.

If you are cool with programming patches and banks and need that flexibility, cool...

I actually just traded my El Cap (and my diamond memory lane jr) for a Timeline because I would rather have a bunch of awesome presets and patches. For all of the tones that the El Cap has, I wish it had more than just two presets.

Can't wait to get the timeline though, it should be a ton of fun. What will be even better is when I get a Mobius and I run them together. I plan on using the pre/post feature on the mobius to put some effects in the feedback loop of the timeline.
