stupid deal today only: $350 Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass S

Re: stupid deal today only: $350 Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass S

Nice. They've got the 600w 1x15 and the 600w 2x10 for $500, though. Wondering how big of a gig either of those could handle.

Add the ingredients up - it doesnt compute, whether at everyday price or in "st00pid mode"... ESPECIALLY with the basic noname speaker.

Bass cab makers, especially for 1x15's, abuse perceptions of its status as a "fullfledged stack component" (though, really, shouldnt that be a 2x15?) to draw pricing parallels with guitarists' 4x12 cabs. Which is just cheating.

Compare:
Roughly 30x30x16 box of expensive birch ply ~$100
Fancier joinery, complex shapes for slant cabs
~$300-500+ in 4 brandname speakers
$20-50 in hardware
Tolexing
TOTAL: 400-650ish materials, labour

To:
$15 in mdf (it seems - not stated otherwise)
$30 noname rebadged speaker
$20 in knockoff hardware and wannabe tolex wallpaper material- very familiar looking chinese cheapo copies. (google for a pic of Bugera 6262 combo, recognize any materials? Right down to the piping, corners, grille cloth, and textured tolexpaper)
TOTAL: $65 materials (6 to *10x* less), simpler labor

...marketing genius, distilled.

bugera wins over ampeg? hmm...

I hate combos this small for my own playing so I can't disagree with any disparaging remarks about it ;) , but I have heard this particular combo played by other bands and it sounds ok, not sure what the profit margin is but I bet its still big.

Oh, thought this was the cab? Dead link now, hard to tell...oh well, a basic SS amp inside bumps maybe as much again off the margin as cab & trim

Actually i compared it to the cost to build a guitar 4x12 halfstack properly (think MESA, old or hiend marshall, carvin, built to order stuff, etc)..

Why halfstack? since thats what they seem to be pushing 15s as the bass equivalent of... You know? Like if you go shopping for something to hang with your guitarists' full stack, salesman gonna try to sell you a 410+115 "bass stack". And if the 410 unit is priced somewhat sensibly, the fact theyll try to charge the same for the 115 "half" is just whack

Did the price breakdown on 412 guitar instead of 410 bass cuz its more familiar, got experience buying selling modding even building em.... Havent gotten around to trying my hand at bass enclosures yet

Win/lose...huh?

No im saying it looks like the same place as did the old bugera cabinets makes low end enclosures for ampeg ..or, at the very least, they share suppliers for nearly everything, all the exterior trim materials are identical (and quite distinct in appearance). I've taken that stuff apart, its all very cheaply built - pretty neatly assembled, but real bottom of the barrel as materials go - tearing into an old american box (cheap used scores, nothing posh or elite - just built well and done right) and putting em side by side really puts it into perspective.

Since factories tend to cluster...prolly puts them in one and the same industrial zone in China, or even the same factory.

cool brutha, it was a combo; 220 watt amp and cab in one package for $350, Ampeg tone

An even better deal is to buy a used one that was made in the U.S.A. They are much better constructed amps.

Re: stupid deal today only: $350 Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass S

350 buys better built 1x15's all day long, 115 combo 210 extension fairly easily, 115+ 410 if lucky... Or 115 + 810 if not.

Yeah you read right. Used 810s are apparently a pain to unload, and hence very very cheap.

true that! I wish my car could handle an 810 and that I only had to wheel it around and not lift it.

both my 410s fit in the back of my corrollla nicely and only weigh 40 pounds each!!! GK :)

FWIW I know specifically that these have problems with at least overly cheap pots and start scratchy business quickly enough. As a general rule if it has bad pots it has bad caps and will stop working altogether.

I mean Ampeg has been known for lack of reliability ever since way before they even made something in China.

Re: stupid deal today only: $350 Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass S

well in that sense its not worth even what you can resell it for

Corolla? Huh... Now i finally believe the listed dimensions from the manuals saying my old BMW 328i is actually a bit shorter than the corolla my mum drove. Cuz afaik 410's generally will NOT fit in mine, at least not "nicely"....

Actually wait up, hows a 410 weigh 40 lbs?! Thought bass tens were built heavier than guitar 12s, or at least in the same ballpark no? Cuz my Celestion UK 12's all weigh like 11.5-13 lbs each, just the speakers...and cabs of 4 are more like 100lbs, so even neodynium weight saving and whatnot should still not a 40 pound four-speaker cab make....

Its hard to believe I know, but the technology is here now! I know cause I own it. I fit BOTH 410s in the back seat of my corrolla and NOT in the trunk!!!
